Hot stone massage

Last week I tried something a little different when I got my massage: hot stones. It was pretty special, I must say! My massage therapist spent about 90 minutes with me instead of the usual 60, since she had to reheat the stones and place new warm ones on me several times. She had oiled stones of various sizes and when I was lying face down (as in the picture), she put warm oiled stones into my hands and onto the soles of my feet while she worked my back with the hot stones.

Also while I was face down, as she worked on my arms and legs she left nice warm stones up and down my back, and then when I was turned face up, she had some nice flat warm stones in a towel under my back. By the time I was finished with the massage, I had some difficulty getting up off the table and dressed, because I was SO RELAXED.

Although this was a delightful treat, I don't think I will do it on a regular basis. This is only because I usually feel energized after a massage. But if you have this available somewhere in your own town, I would recommend it as a fabulous Valentine's Day gift, either for yourself or your partner.

  1. Sounds wonderful !
I've read they used stones as bed warmers in Ye Olde England, but this puts a whole new spin on it .....

  2. That would be a wonderful experience. I have only had a neck and shoulder massage and I about melted afterwards. It is unbelievable how much tension we have in our upper body. Getting rid of it is like having heavy weights lifted.

  3. When I went and got my pregnancy massage last week I grabbed a brochure of services, and they do offer hot stone massages. I think it sounds fantastic. I plan on trying at some point, obviously not quite yet. I know what you mean about being so relaxed it's difficult to bring yourself to move...
Do you get a weekly massage? That would be heavenly.

  4. I must admit to never having a massage. Too many sore spots and I'm sure it would hurt, but this sounds nice.... I'll have to give it a try!

  7. I have never had a massage either. I guess I'm too self-conscious about my fat, flabby bod. I did have a neck and shoulder massage once at work, and it was heavenly.

  9. I've had this and I loved it! But my daughter didn't like it as well as a "regular" massage.

  10. That sounds heavenly and extremely relaxing. I have never tried a full body massage, usually about ten minutes is all I can take of the neck and shoulder massage.

  11. They work too. I had this done in Japan and not only did it feel good but it seemed to warm up the muscles and joints. They would wrap a stone almost scalding hot, in a towel and stick it in your bed at your feet. We slept on the floor over there.

  15. My daughter says that hot rocks are wonderful. She gets a massage on a regular basis..she says it makes her a better person ( less cranky). I did not do well with the one massage I had..no fun for large breasted me:(
