Sweater in progress

Today I'm going out to a wildlife preserve to watch a raptor specialist capture and tag (hopefully) a red-tailed hawk. I'll have my trusty camera and hope to get some great pictures for you. In the meantime, I thought all of you knitting buffs out there might like to see my latest project: a sweater!

After working on scarves (two) and hats (five), I decided to try something a little different and finally decided on this sweater (click to enlarge). It's knit on circular needles from the neck down, with raglan sleeves. You can see I've already gotten to the body and will go back later and knit the sleeves afterwards. The neckline curls up, so I peeked at the directions to find that I'll go back later and pick up stitches from around the neckline and knit to make it lay flat (whew!).

Other than the tedium of knitting all the time with no purling or increases, I don't have to count any more, like I did when I was increasing for the raglan, just knit. It's a nice thing to do while sitting in front of the TV watching reruns of NCIS. And I'm having fun! I just hope this sweater won't be so warm that I'll never get a chance to wear it.
:-)

  2. This is gorgeous! I love the color. I am so impressed. You've knit a couple of hats and this much of a sweater while I'm still working on the same baby blanket. I doubt, with all the wind you have there, that you won't find a few opportunities to wear this.
It's funny; I often knit a row or two while watching NCIS reruns myself (during Jordan's nap time).
I'm looking forward to the pictures later:) Have fun!

  7. The sweater is a gorgeous colour. I've always loved Royal Blue! It looks like you're knitting it upside down, but that's just an unusual way of doing it? I've never done it that way before. I'm sure you'll get to wear it a lot in the next year.

  8. That looks like a sweater you'll wear a bunch. (I haven't worn a sweater since I was 45, but oh well!) I hope it's not too hot for you. If it is, you'll have to move again to a colder climate or something? But...I live in a colder climate than you so... maybe you don't get as hot as me... Of course I never used to eat and that's why I was cold all the time and now I eat three squares... I'm rambling... (Ya Think?)

  9. That looks like a pretty yarn and the shades of blue are lovely. I have never knitted a sweater that way – it looks like the top would be a challenge. I am knitting a heavy scarf for my daughter and hope to have it finished while it is still cold in Ohio. Maybe next time you need to knit a sweater with cotton yarn? They have pretty shades in some of the mail order companies on the web and you could wear it in warmer weather.

  12. Love the sweater. I'm still working on the multi-colored afgan for my daughter. I'm taking my time. It is a nice winter project and is relaxing, while I watch the new Project Runway. (Love to watch designers make something unique out of very little - sometimes with just a few dollars in fabric.)

  14. You're getting so much knitting done! I'm also working on a sweater requested by my son, but it's black and very boring. So it's slow going on that sweater. I'm knitting many other things in between picking that black sweater up again.
This blue one of yours looks like it's going to be beautiful, comfy, cozy.
I also knit while watching TV at night. That's what I'm off to do now.
