Blogspotting

What makes a day special for you? Is it waking up feeling good, with the sun shining but not too hot? Or is it smelling the coffee as a loved one makes a surprise breakfast?

For me, it's easy. I love to wake up and get a cup of tea, then come back to bed to read what my blogging friends have been up to since I last visited at their place. Today I am recovered from last week's exertions, and the sun rose without any of the marine layer that has affected us since we left the heat wave behind. It was even cold (48 degrees F) on the 14th day of July!! Yes! And by the time I caught the bus to town for my daily workout at the gym, it was almost 60 degrees. Now it's 70 and perfect.

But the best part was finding some of my blogging friends who don't blog every day had put up some new posts. Vagabonde over at Recollections of a Vagabonde (one of my favorites) wrote about what July 14 means to her, being French and all, about her grandfather, and about a song. The post brought grateful tears to my eyes, and I hope anyone who doesn't already know her will visit sometime. You won't be sorry.

Robynn over at Robynn's Ravings is lamenting the way our children up and leave us, with nary a backward glance. She does this with such humor and even a little pathos that I also teared up. Maybe it's just me, today, happy to be alive and counting my blessings. Things sometimes get to me, in a good way.

Even though she's gotten into the habit lately of writing almost every day, Linda at A Slower Pace has become a friend whose journey toward health and wholeness fascinates me, and I smile when I see she's got a post I haven't read yet. What is it about some people who can come through the written word and make me CARE so much?? It's a mystery, but it's another reason I love blogging.

I didn't feel like coming home right away after my workout and shower, so I caught the bus to Fairhaven, a short ride to the southern part of Bellingham. It's always fun for me to go to the Village Bookstore. I hardly need an excuse, but I rummaged around for books that have been recommended on blog posts. Somebody (I don't remember who at the moment) suggested Harlan Coben, a mystery writer I've never read before, so I picked up a used book to give him a try. I ordered 7 Secrets of Synchronicity after reading Trish and Rob MacGregor's blog for a while (they wrote it).

My life is very full for many reasons, not the least of which is my connection to the blogosphere and to my many virtual friends around the world. Some people use Facebook in the same way, but to me it's not the same at all. I also have a Facebook page, but I use it to catch up with old friends and family members, not new and deliciously exciting new acquaintances. I've only given you a taste of some of those who are over on the right-hand side of my blog, "Fun Places to Visit."

You light up my life. Really.
:-)

  1. Thanks for the mention. Needless to say, you intrigue me beyond belief.

I just told my daughter the other day how I enjoyed my blogger friends more than I did friends wearing skin.

Skin friends can sometimes be a pain in the butt. With blogger friends we see each other for only a few minutes a day. Just the right amount. I love it.

I learn so much by reading blogs. People have no reason to be lonely this days if they can use a computer.

  4. I feel the same way about visiting your blog each day...
Some days I visit early before getting out of the house for work, oftentimes, I visit in the evening, when the place is less hurried, and i can relish every word, and melt into those wonderful pictures.
I have learned so much about life, and people who enjoy life, I hope I always have the opportunity to meet new people and visit their homes, families, and worlds, it's genuine friendships made in the virtual world.
I've visited your recommendations this evening, and became a "follower".
    Thank you friend :)

  5. Awww. Very sweet post to honor your blogger friends, DJan. I feel the same way..it is interesting that you develop friendships so quickly through this mystery of blogging.I swear when I am away from it and busy I get a little anxiety from "missing out" on the blogging world and wonder what my blogger friends have been up to.

  7. You are the SWEETEST friend (not that I didn't already know that and appreciate it sincerely). How kind of you to mention me and I got a new friend and follower today because of it. :) Thank you, DJan. I really love hearing what my blog friends have to say and wish I could spend far more time with them. This has been an incredibly busy season and it looks like I'll have to have a surgery. But if I can squinch myself up to tell everyone why, it oughta be worth a laugh. (Not saying I WILL, mind you!) When I look down, it sure seems I have the GUTS for it!

  8. I do think it's interesting that we tend to choose our blogger friends much as we would flesh and blood friends, because we have something in common. Most of my blog friends are mature women with a liberal mindset, who lead ordinary lives but can share those lives in an interesting manner. And on line we have the opportunity to meet so many more like minded folks than we could where we live.
I'll chenk out your blog links.

  9. Blogland is our land. We connect, we share, we laugh. Blog friends are every bit as real as real friends.

Thank you for mentioning the book!

  13. Now, YOU made ME cry! I honestly do not know what I would do with myself if I did not have my blogging friends. My biggest problem is keeping up with all the interesting blogs out there! I am in the process of "reviewing" all the blogs I follow. I was shocked some have not posted in over a year...

I live 250 miles from my children, grand children, siblings, Mom and my Father who is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. My husband works very long hours, so it can become very lonely and I feel isolated. We adopted a little scruffy dog we named Izzy (Izzabella) and she keeps me company and gets me out for walks.

I spent from age 5 to age 10 in Bremerton, WA. I loved that state and feel I had the BEST childhood because of it. I have so many wonderful memories.

I must follow this blog as well as your other one...you have me, hook, line and sinker...

  14. Early morning dawns on my patio with a cup of coffee and some quiet solitude. That is what makes a day special for me. Like you, I look forward to reading comments, especially from certain people - like you. Those comments validate my blogging effort and make it worthwhile.

  15. Blogging is by far my favorite form of social networking, FB and Twitter cannot compare. I wish the summer days were not so busy so I could spend more time with my friends online.

  16. DJan, it is so sweet of you to mention my blog. I don’t post often – it will be 10 days soon, but I read all my friends’ blogs and then I always like to look at new ones and see what they have to say, so I get behind. You were one of the first blogs I followed and I am pleased I did. Your posts are interesting and it’s always fun to visit you.

I really appreciate your comments! If you see a word verification box here, just ignore it. I don't use the darn thing and Blogger is trying to get us to use it, I guess. Ignore it and your comment will still appear.
