Turning leaves and rain |
Right now I can hear the rain pounding on the roof, and in the time we were out walking, we all got completely soaked, even with our rain gear. I sure wished I had thought to put my iPhone in a plastic bag, because every place I put it on my body eventually got wet. Luckily it wasn't cold, so as long as we were walking, we were fine, but once we got back to the cars we all headed home for dry clothes. It made no sense to go out for coffee in our present state.
My friend Judy also canceled our movie date, so now I'll have to rethink what to do with my day. Oh, one more thing: my neighbor next door has a grape arbor and has always been more than willing to let me have some. I noticed this year that they seem rather deformed.
Only a few grapes ripened |
:-)
I am not familiar with a problem with grape vines but I haven't been growing grapes very long.
ReplyDeleteDetermination is your second name I believe, walking in that miserable weather. The rain is a good thing though.
There is a disease or a problem with grape leaves that leaves them pretty bumpy: like tiny bumps or warts. And as a kid, those leaves turned brown and fell off the vine. Kids, like me, with a home made corn cob pipe would gather these fallen leaves and crush them up and stuff them in the hollowed-out corncob pip bowl and smoke them like tobacco. Thanks for the post. Brought back a lot of memories.
DeleteYou can also read about the problem here.

don't know on the grapes. guess all your glorious days and misty days caught up to you and you got a downpour!
ReplyDeleteWe had a drought this summer. Mother would say, "Dry as a bone." But we began getting 1" - 2" and 3" rainfalls that surely helped all the things from plants to animals that were thirsty this summer. My new 3 year old cherry tree had blooms early but then it got dry and I never saw a cherry. I guess I might get a cherry pie next summer.
DeleteLove the turning leaves and the rain.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope (and trust) you will find something to fill in the rest of the day.
I'm always amazed at how you say active in rain. we head indoors as soon as it rains.
ReplyDeleteThe weather may have been no fun for walking, but I'm sure enjoying this recent rainfall.
ReplyDeleteWe stood in the rain at Irene's soccer game this morning, but then the rain stopped by the time we headed to the light rail at 11:00 to go the the 1:00 Sounders match. No rain again until this evening. We lucked out down south of you.
ReplyDeleteThe lack of grapes might be a pollination problem - no bees when needed. Don't know about the bumps.
I got locked out or somehow lost contact with you -- seems like years ago. Anyway, I haven't really published much on blogspot lately and concentrated on Facebook more than anything.
ReplyDeleteRained most of the day here yesterday too.
ReplyDeleteWHAT is this mystical thing you call rain?!?!
ReplyDeleteAww too bad the grapes did not mature right.
ReplyDeleteI guess a zip lock bag should be part of your hiking arsenol from now on. At least a bag or two wouldn't be heavy. Sounds like a real downpour! You guys are even used to a lot of rain. Whew! No coffee. No movie. Now I'm wondering what you ended up doing? Reading a good book maybe? ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like Abe solved the grape mystery. What a difference from your last hike. I know you have good gear so if you still got wet, it was a soaker. Like Rita said, it would be a good day to curl up with a good book.
ReplyDeleteIt must have really rained for you to get wet, usually your gear is better than that! :)
ReplyDeleteThose grapes have some sort of blight, don't they. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw the red leaves in your picture. Autumn is definitely on its way.
The picture, with the hint of fall, is like a postcard!
ReplyDeleteYou have the most beautiful spring and falls in your area! Sigh... I wish we could go back. Someday...
