Astronomy Picture of the Day June 10, 2019 |
The featured image was captured last month while Juno passed only about 15,000 kilometers above Jupiter's cloud tops. The next close pass of Juno near Jupiter will be in July.I have been fascinated with Jupiter and its beauty for many years and have been thrilled with the pictures Juno has been able to capture. This one is, well, out of this world.
:-)
There are such incredible wonders out there! We are fortunate to live in an age when we can get a glimpse the a tiny portion of them.
ReplyDeleteEchoing Marie. We are so lucky to be able to see and marvel at so many things.
ReplyDeleteIncredible!
ReplyDeleteIt's all so very fascinating, I used to watch the stars with my dad through his telescope....
ReplyDeleteHugs,

I'd say that you had something very interesting to say. When space travel first started it was number one news. Now we have all kinds of developments and very little news.
ReplyDeleteI believe Jupiter was the Roman equivalent of the Greek Zeus and Juno was the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Hera. Hera was Zeus' wife. Since he was always fooling around, Hera had to keep a watchful eye over him. How very appropriate to name the NASA spacecraft Juno so she could keep watch over Jupiter.
ReplyDeleteI think Jupiter is real visible all week:)
ReplyDeleteThe dark spot intrigues me. Will we ever know? I have been looking for Jupiter in the night sky but I guess it has to be a clear sky. So far all clouds. Darn.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me of the Jupiter Symphony by Mozart.
ReplyDeleteI ain't got nuthin either. :)
ReplyDeleteMakes you wonder what that darkness is.
ReplyDeleteJust amazes me that we can have pictures of the surface of Jupiter in the first place. This would have been science fiction when I was growing up. Wow! :)
I've been hoping to get outdoors to view it with binoculars. Clise to earth this month. Excellent image.
ReplyDeleteI love all things other-worldly too. I just visited Bryce Canyon yesterday and it reminded me of something other-worldly. I was speechless!
