A sticky subject

First strawberries from my garden
Yesterday, Hubby and I devoured the first four strawberries from the garden. Now we have harvested the first of the fruit, and steamed up some Russian kale as well. The first of this year's tasty treats from the garden.

I  just finished an acupuncture treatment, which is why this post is a little late for today. While in the coffee shop, I tried to write a post from my iPad without success, so I was very interested to learn that Apple is coming out with an operating system for the iPad that might fix that little problem. In any event, I haven't got much to write about anyway.

One of my blogging buddies asked me if acupuncture really works, and I've got to tell you that it sure has worked for me. I had a serious problem with my heel, which was completely fixed with a few treatments, and now I am going to Warren, the acupuncturist, for some other problems that are not quite so cut and dried. It might help to realize that I am rather susceptible to suggestion, but so far acupuncture has also helped with other annoyances that I suffer from. Arthritis pain, mild constipation, and flagging energy are all symptoms that have been alleviated by having needles stuck in my arms, legs, and tummy. Plus I always feel much better afterwards.

So who knows? Is it because I expect it to work or does it really? Frankly, I don't think it matters much if I feel better afterwards. If you're wondering, it might be an interesting subject to delve into.

  1. It'll be weeks before our local strawberries are showing.

  2. I am really glad it works for you - and don't care one iota whether why it works. The fact that it does is enough.

  3. Terry says, "it's all in your head, and that's important for your health." Exactly. It doesn't matter HOW it works, just that it DOES.

  4. I have had acupuncture for various health issues and it worked for me too. If the power of suggestion is what makes it work, that’s fine by me. Whatever works!

  5. Attitude counts for much in our health. Read an Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor and you'll have a good laugh about some of the treatments.

  6. I did a little research on acupuncture a while back, and decided it was not for me. I am not susceptible to suggestion, too much of a skeptic. But I'm glad that it works for you.

  7. We've been enjoying local strawberries for several weeks now, all so delicious.
I've never tried acupuncture but if it works for you then I'm all for it !

  8. My mom had cystitis and she said acupuncture really helped her. But then she said it was strong doses of Vitamin C, so I don't know what the cure was. I've heard really wonderful stories about acupuncture. I'm so glad it is helping you, DJan. I'm willing to be a believer?

  9. Hi Jan,

My husband and I overdid it on one of our walks and had sore muscles for a few days. Heat helped.

  11. If it makes you feel better and you can afford it financially, then why not?

  12. If you feel better afterwards... that's all that matters.

  14. Oh...I so believe there is something to the power of suggestion. Or, at times, mind over matter. It has worked for me...and, those with negative thoughts it won't help.

    You keep doing what works.

I'll have some of your kale!!

  15. I was waiting to have some time to come to your blog as I like to go back and look at all your past pictures. First, belated congratulations on your silver anniversary – I had not seen a wedding in the air before.
I am pleased you found relief with acupuncture. Years ago, while still in France, I fell off a horse and hurt my back badly. After several acupuncture treatments I never had back pains again. I wonder now if I should consider it for my bad ankle as it is difficult to walk much (ligament gone.) Your strawberries look delicious by the way.

  16. Attitude towards a treatment often determines the success or not. I'm like you and usually expect something to work. I am so glad you have gotten relief with the acupuncture. I have been tempted to try it also.

  17. Thanks for telling us about your experience with acupuncture. Sounds like it's at least worth a try!

  18. Yummy strawberries. I can't get enough of them at this time of the year but I don't grow them. My physio combined massage with acupuncture when I had tendon trouble in my leg. I was delighted with the results.

  19. Your strawberries look yummy! Good to hear you are getting results from your garden and from acupuncture. Far Guy tried that for his TN pain...it didn't work for him but was worth a try:)
