Front porch flowers

Not planted yet, but soon
I just returned from a trip to the local Fred Meyer, which always has a wonderful assortment of flowers to plant in my front porch planters. I wanted to show you what I've got ahead, a time to dig my hands into the dirt and give these lovely flowers a place to brighten my days, every time I will see them as I pass them by.

It was an interesting trip, since I've been pretty much convinced that I contracted the Covid virus a while back. And then this morning, it came to me that there is no doubt: I no longer can smell or taste anything. My sense of smell hasn't been very good ever since I took a blood pressure medication that messed it up, but I could still smell some things very well. Now I can no longer tell the difference in taste between broccoli, a fudge bar, or carrots. No taste at all.

Apparently that is a definite sign of the virus. My cough is much better, and my tiredness is not as strong as it was a few days ago, but it wasn't until I woke yesterday morning that I was convinced I'd turned the corner. When I ventured out today, I wore a face mask, gloves, and didn't get closer than six feet to anybody except the person who checked me out. In the open air, she put the flowers into carrying boxes and then put them on my cart. Almost everybody in the store was wearing a mask, which surprised me. I was glad to see it.

I will not be going out again, since there is little I need, now that I have a project to play with. That, plus books, and even a video yoga class tomorrow. I'm in good shape. I hope you are staying safe.

  1. That's a good idea. I think I'll put an arrangement of potted flowers in the driveway for the postman, delivery people and passers-by to enjoy. I hope you keep posting about your journey through the virus. It's so much better to get real stories instead what the media projects. Thank you. I wish you well.

  2. I am SO glad you are feeling better!!

I'm debating whether or not I should venture out to Home Depot to get some yard supplies or if it's worth it to have them delivered. Since I "technically" can't work in the yard during work hours, this is a decision that I can sit on.

  8. If you went out while you still have the virus, I'm glad you wore a mask to protect other people. I' happy that you are feeling better.

  9. I am glad you are staying in to recover. "They say" it takes about 10 days after you feel ok. My nurse friend said the mask doesn't really do much this is way too small--so staying home is the best way to keep others safe. Watch out too, sometimes it turns wicked. Stay safe. Keep others safe.

  10. You were feeling ill and still went hiking last week? Now shopping for flowers? (I think they are pretty by the way) I had heard that smell & taste are two senses that disappear. I hope you're better & your husband is okay thru this so neither of you are hospitalized & didn't contaminate anyone near you.

  12. Great news you are feeling better but that loss of taste and smell I hope returns in time. Otherwise meals will become a chore. Do take care Djan and stay put so you can totally heal. I think they are working on a blood test to see if you have had it and if you are past contagion. You will probably get it first since you were the first to get hit hard.

  13. Our garden will suffer this year, for I don't think I'll be going out to buy flowers anytime soon.

  14. I thought you had to stay quarantined 14 days for the virus? Did your doctor say it was okay for you to go out?

  16. I'm glad you are better but disappointed that you went out knowing you were ill. Hopefully the checker who can't distance from customers has a strong immune system. Flowers are nice but not worth making anyone sick.
