Goldenrod |
On my way to the bus yesterday, I saw this golden plant in full flower. Uh-oh, I thought to myself, I think I'm allergic to this stuff. I have recently noticed an increase in itchy eyes and nose, and lately the signs of early fall are appearing everywhere. At first I thought this was ragweed, so I (of course) read up on it. Nope, they are very different looking, and goldenrod is a favorite of pollinators.
Having been unaware of the differences between these two plants, now I'm on the lookout for ragweed in my area. But it's nice to learn that the pretty goldenrod is not a significant sneeze maker. Do you have any allergies that make the season miserable for you?
:-)
I'm allergic to seasonal work. I try to milk it for all it's worth, excuses...but, nada. Work zone ahead. Full speed.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, I'm only allergic to bee stings. No plants, that I know of.
No allergies that I am aware of, sorry you are suffering !
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed seeing the bright yellow flowers on the Goldenrod, but didn't know they caused problems for some people.
I have observed signs of Autumn all around, especially since rain has been a scarcity lately and the summer flowers are fading fast.
Hugs,
~Jo
I used to have a whole range of sensitivities which made much of the year miserable. I would sneeze, and sneeze and sneeze some more. My eyes were permanently red.
ReplyDeleteOf the ten most common allergens only dog and cat hair didn't cause problems.
I had a course of desensitising injections and am now (touch wood) mostly free of the problems.
I don't really have issues with allergies.
ReplyDeleteI have had light allergy symptoms all spring and summer. I guess I have developed more allergies in my old age. :-) I'm not sure what's making me sneeze now.
ReplyDeleteI thank my lucky stars I do not have allergies. Some people really suffer with them.
ReplyDeleteHey, goldenrod is one of my favorite wild flowers.
ReplyDeleteAllergic to grasses from lawns to wheat. I live in wheat country. Oh well. We keep the Kleenex and antihistamine makers in business.
ReplyDeleteIt is one tree or possibly two that completely takes my breath away and I react as if I am having an asthma attack( I have an inhaler with me just for these occasions). I never recognise the tree and can walk through woodlands for hours with no problem. But when it happens it is very sudden. I alleviate the problem by moving away from the tree and then I am ok.
ReplyDeleteThis time of year my eyes are so itchy. This too will pass though!
ReplyDeleteWas never allergic till I moved here. Don't know the culprit but it only happens in Spring and has gotten less each year. Maybe I am building an immunity. Fingers crossed. Hope you do too.
ReplyDeleteMostly mild. Some years are worse than others. Depended a lot on where I was living.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Manoa Valley as a child, I could not breathe at night because my sinus was clogged due to the valley air full of mold and pollen and excessive rain.
ReplyDeleteBees...the dirty buggers like me too.
ReplyDeleteI love Golden Rods color:)
We've had "high allergy alert" here in the Northeast for the past several weeks, and boy, have I felt it. I find Allegra helps me out. But now, for some reason, the levels have gone down ... but probably, as you point out, not for long.
ReplyDeleteYep, I have loads of allergies, all year long but it seems the summer is the worst for me. Take care of yourself!!!
