Full sun today

One of our electric buses

This was my first morning walk to the bus since the time changed in the middle of the night, early Sunday morning. Today, there was enough light in the sky for me to capture a picture of the all-electric bus at the stop across the street. I was also lucky enough to ride one going the opposite direction, to downtown and my coffee shop.

Before too long, all the buses we have here in Bellingham will be electric, like this one. It's much quieter to ride, and hopefully we will all be able to do our part to help reduce our carbon footprints. By the time I arrived at my departure destination on my way back home, the sun was shining brightly and raising the outdoor temperature quickly. It had been quite cold overnight, around 43°F (5.5°C), but by the time I headed for Cornwall Park, the chilly air was actually comfortable. I decided to walk my usual long version home (around three miles), through the park and down my favorite street, East Maplewood Avenue. A short street that runs between Meridian and Northwest, it's filled with lots of delightful things to see.

Some great pumpkin carvers live here

Over the last weeks, I have smiled many times at the funny pumpkin with the long tongue, and today I figured I'd better get a shot before these guys head for the dumpster. The sunshine caused him to be striped, but he is amusing in any light at all. Good job to the pumpkin carvers!

Scarecrows? Crowscares?

These two alien beings in a nearby yard caught my eye, too. Once I decided to take their picture, I realized that one of those scarecrows is actually a crow. This delightful scene also brought a smile, and capturing the last red leaves on the tree, as they vibrated in the sun, was a bonus.

We have quite a bit of rain in our future, but not right at this moment. As I look outdoors and see all the sunshine, I guess I need to somehow store the view for safekeeping. Putting them in my blog is as good a way as any, I suppose.

:-)

  1. Love your little jaunt down the other way home. Great captures. We have plenty of sun if you ever need any?

  2. I'm very glad you shared these pics DJan, I was just thinking the second & third would make great photos for those spiral wall calendars! Loved seeing the electric bus too, though I'm a little envious you live in such a progressive part of the country. I ride the bus too, but the best we have are buses powered by natural gas.

  3. I've never seen or heard of an electric bus. That is neat. And your walk home sounds scenic, DJan. I'm not fond of scarecrows, but do like crows!

  4. I really like your photos.
Now as the sun has gone down and the sky is darkening we have been happy for a sunny day here too. After a great weekend, it was back to doing Monday things here at home. This morning we got the house cleaning and laundry done. This afternoon I went for my walk while Tom worked at cleaning up the yard. Then I got all of my photos organized and posted a l-o-n-g blog.

  6. Hey, I think I told you yesterday to send the rain my way. However it's too late for rain here. It would make a mess of everything.

  7. I hear you all are sending a storm this way...could you keep it there! Fun pumpkin carvings! We have a carving friend who carves a wonderful pumpkin every year...but since Covid we don't see her anymore. :(

  9. Love that walk with you.

We have a growing fleet of electric school buses here. They’re so quiet!

  10. Love the idea of electric buses. We don't have public transportation here--too small a town-- but I have been behind the gas powered ones and the fumes can make it through an A/C unit.
Liked the tongue out pumpkin. Enjoy the warm and dry.

  12. We have hybrid buses here in Fargo/Moorhead. I noticed that when I was in the hospital.
Good that you captured the fall decorations before they were gone. :)

  13. Hawaii has ordered electric buses, too. I like your photos. That pumpkin with the tongue sticking out is awesome.

  14. When I asked my daughter's mother-in-law (in Seattle) what I could bring to her from Hawaii, she said, without hesitation, "Sunshine!" Wish I could. We have so much of it that we take it for granted. If it only could be bottled and shipped out....

  15. A delightful walk through your neighbourhood. The pumpkin carvers did a tremendous job as did the scarecrow makers.

  16. I wish Hawaii could have electric buses. Art was talking about getting an electric car. He even added extra solar panels with that hope in mind. This is the solar panels that the pigeons keep pooping all over. Doggone it!

Thank you for sharing all those cute pumpkins and scarecrows!
