Best time of the year

Melanie took this
Last Thursday, Melanie and I walked twice around Lake Padden. It was a bit cloudy but it didn't rain, and the cool breeze kept us comfortable as we journeyed our 5.2 miles. It was just what I needed, what the doctor ordered, so to speak. I've been unable to do long hikes without injury, so this was just right.

Then yesterday on Facebook, I saw that Mel had gone on a much longer and steeper hike with two of our Trailblazers, and I realized that I've been holding her back. I don't think I could have done the 9+ miles and 2,500 feet elevation. It's a bit jarring to realize that if the Trailblazers were to begin hiking together again right now, I couldn't join them.

We have just moved to Phase 2 in the reopening plan, and that means now some establishments are allowing people to come inside and enjoy coffee while remaining and not having to leave right away. Yesterday I went looking for someplace to get my hair cut, and every single place I went had no openings until the middle of next week. Apparently, I'm not the only shaggy-haired person in town. I did eventually go to my regular hair salon to find out why I haven't been getting through. Same story, but she promised to call me and get me on the schedule. She's booked through June 17th!

When I got home, she called me and said she'd come in early on Tuesday if I were willing. Willing? I can't wait! Tomorrow at the crack of 8:00 I'll be there. And she knows I'll give her a hefty tip for getting me in.

Thursday I'll see my acupuncturist, and then on Friday my first massage in three months! For someone who has been getting one every 3 weeks for years, it will be a real joy to finally, once again, put myself under her capable hands. Phase 2, here I come!

  2. I too am desperate for a haircut but not sure when they will be open. Walking has been my saviour these last three months. The distance doesn't matter it's just being out there that counts.

  3. Woo Hoo. And happy dances with and for you.
Mind you, you talk of holding Melanie back. I doubt that. I suspect her walks with you gave her immense pleasure, albeit a diffrent pleasure to more arduous hikes.

  4. How wonderful to see so many beautiful flowers on your walk and it’s fun to see you with a new longer hairstyle. Granted I’m dying to cut my hair too.

  5. I am sure Melanie enjoys the less strenuous trips with her friend as much if not more. It is not like she isn't still taking the longer hikes.
Yeah!! A hair cut. Wow that has to be exciting. Enjoy that massage. I am envious.

  6. I haven't checked with my hair stylist yet. I don't know if they are open. She is a Facebook friend so I think I'll message her and see what's happening. I really need a haircut too, but I don't have to be first in line. I'm sure all of the hair salons will be overwhelmed.

  9. Funny, isn't it, how hair cuts top nearly everyone's list!

  10. So, you can't go for long hikes, and steep climbs without injury...thatxs no big deal in my mind...you don't ever want to push yourself and make your body say never again at all. Moderation is best. Yes, hair cut...how I need a hair cut!

  11. Although we are moving into phase 2 later this week, Sue's hair appt has been rescheduled for mid-July. She's not sure if she will keep it as she finds the mask difficult to deal with.

  14. Well, it's Tuesday and after 8 am, so I imagine you've got your hair cut, DJan. Congrats! I know it always feels good after a haircut. I really need it too, but not ready to take the plunge (I have been choppin' on my own - so sad).

  15. My hair is straight and has just gotten longer and ragged at the ends but it doesn't matter because when I go out, I have a mask on so I feel invisible. I love it, actually. I just had my massage on Monday after 3 months without. So wonderful! Have a great hair day and enjoy your massage!
