A carpet of leaves |
This morning, Lily had to work, and I wasn't all that excited about the long drive out to the north shore of Lake Whatcom to walk with the ladies, so instead I walked to Fairhaven along Boulevard Park. It was foggy and quite lovely, and as you can see from the carpet of leaves, our deciduous trees are well advanced in their shedding activities.

Kayaks emerging from the fog |
As I walked along
Bayview Drive to Taylor Dock, which takes me from downtown Bellingham into Fairhaven, the fog began to lift, and I saw these kayakers and could hear them talking to one another. Just a few minutes earlier, they would not have been visible. The fog is long gone and the sun is shining merrily at the moment.
We had a lovely day on Thursday, after a full day of rain on Wednesday, and then another day of rain yesterday with sunshine today. It's that time of year in the Pacific Northwest, and I'm loving it. I'm sure the ladies had a nice walk without me, but my own walk was serene, quiet, and restorative. It's all good.
:-)
Beautiful fall colours!
ReplyDeleteYour fallen leaves are a myriad of colours, accompanying you on your walk. Lost in one's own thoughts whilst out walking is something I enjoy doing.
ReplyDeleteI love that your solitary walk provided you with heart balm. And loved the views you shared.
ReplyDeleteOh yes...I do so like to walk alone as you did. Your own pace, deep in thought at times, peace & quiet...drinking in the sights! This was a beautiful walk today D J
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I love that walk, especially when it culminates in a visit to Shirlee Bird's for coffee and perhaps a pastry.
ReplyDeleteI'm a loner. I like to walk by myself.
ReplyDeleteThat is a walk I would have enjoyed. like Red, I am not a group walker either.
ReplyDeleteA solo walk through a carpet of leaves sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love western NC mountains where I live, your posts and pictures make me long to spend time in your area. Like you, I find time alone in nature fulfilling in many ways.
ReplyDeleteJust seeing all those colorful leaves makes your walk worth it right there. Walking alone I always noticed so much more around me and found it extra peaceful. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty leaves! Sometime a solo walk is a good thing:)
ReplyDeleteWhile it is lovely to walk in companionship, it is also sometimes just as lovely to do it on our own.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of the fallen leaves!
ReplyDeleteKayaking in the fog sounds surreal. Next time, maybe you'll hear the chatter of sea monsters before the veil lifts.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I prefer walking with a friend or two (with me, it's usually B; in your case it's often ten!); but walking alone does have its charms, as you've so aptly shown us.
ReplyDeleteGlad the fog lifted and you could see the kayakers. I love that photo of the carpet of leaves.
