Fall is coming along nicely

Front porch and leaves a-droppin'
I've seen what is going on around the US in terms of weather these days. A huge blizzard moved through the middle of the country, and cold air and record-setting snows hit the northeast. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we have had lots and lots of rain during the past week, more than usual, but incredibly mild temperatures. Go figure.

When I woke this morning, it was almost 60°F (15°C) with strong winds and rain. We have several windstorms during the fall and winter months, so this was no surprise, but it's the first for this season. Almost all the leaves have fallen from the trees, as you can see, but without a cold snap, I still have flowers on my front porch. They'll wilt and dry up once we have a hard freeze. So far, they are still doing well.

The days are very short now, moving towards the winter solstice, after which the days will begin to lengthen. By the end of January, I usually notice the slow return of the light. For now, I'm still enjoying our wonderful mild weather.

  1. Those winter storms made flight cancellations here... so glad my grandson was able to get back home to California before the weather caused problems at the airports (although most likely the problems mightn't have affected California).

  4. We had thunder squalls go through from about 3:00 on today, with hail and torrential rain. Dramatic.

  5. I live about 100 miles from Bellingham on the east slope of the Cascades and our weather is completely different! It snowed all day yesterday and then again this morning, with temperatures in the 30s and no wind at all. It's almost never windy this time of year. And there are no leaves left on the trees!

The seasons are changing which is not a good sign for the planet. Enjoy those gorgeous flowers for a bit longer though .

  8. Snow and then possibly sleet expected to move in today up here. It's 20 degrees. Definitely winter. Would like to see more snow for Christmas. :)

  9. You certainly have lovely colors and I hope you don't get a frost. We have had some really cold weather and a few days ago, God's leaf blower in the form of a wind storm did a bang up job blowing my leaves to the fence line and denuding the trees. Enjoy your mild weather.

  10. It has been warm lately. A few of our trees are still holding onto their leaves.
