A walk and a march

Eagle perched in a tree
When I took this picture on the waterfront during our walk, I thought it would have shown the distinct markings of a bald eagle, but no, you'll just have to take my word for it. We walked in a light rain for the entire time, but we were hoping it would stop in time for the March for Our Lives, happening at 10:00am just a few blocks away.
Listening to the speeches in the rain
But no such luck: it rained persistently while the crowd gathered at City Hall, doing what we could to stay dry. I foolishly believed the forecast, which said that it should be just a few stray showers this morning, and had no rain hat or proper clothing. Instead, in the hour we stood outside waiting for the march to start, it just plain old rained. Fortunately, however, by the time we started to march, the rain stopped. The turnout was pretty incredible; I was so glad to see so many people wanting to support the young people whose idea it was to hold these marches today.
My smashed bumper
When I returned to the coffee shop where I had left my car, I discovered that some awful person had smashed the rear of my car and knocked it out of alignment enough that the entire bumper was pushed out of position by about two inches. There is no way they could not have noticed what happened, but there was no note, no apology. I will get it repaired, at least a little, but why do people these days feel no need to take responsibility for these things?
:-(

  1. Sigh on the damage to your car. And the lack of responsibility.
Perhaps the rain was tears from above for so many deaths? I am so glad to see the marches, and was thrilled that they are happening here too. And infuriated that a recently elected State government wants to water down our gun laws.

  2. A nuisance about the car.

I've seen that the March is happening in many places today.

  3. It is sad such a wonderful march was punctuated with a castly repair bill! You persisted today, Jan.

  5. I had not heard about a March...:( I suppose there is always something to protest.
What a bum to hit your car and not leave a note. Is there a camera in the area? Did you report it to the police? You should not have to pay a deductable:(

  6. So sorry about the car damage. That's why we need to have good insurance, to cover what others won't or can't do.

  8. Sorry about your car. These events are maddening. Yes, I'm happy to see that there was a large turnout for the marches. I hope there will be some success.

  10. How can people just walk away from something like hitting another car?? So sorry.
So glad you got to march and how nice the rain stopped. A sign??

  11. Nice that so many people turned out for the march.

The bumper cruncher might likely have been someone very young afraid to tell parents or someone who was terrified their insurance would go up if it was reported...or just one of those people who doesn't care about other people or their property. I always wonder about who would do such a thing.

My eagle views are from far away, too, so I could tell. ;)

  12. Doggone your bumper. Something like that happened to us at a shopping center too. We're thinking it was a senior citizen who wasn't able to judge distance since it was a senior day thing at a grocery store.

Good for you and Linda going out to march. I really wanted to go, but it was raining a lot here too. Sigh...

  16. Dear DJan, that bumper--with no-one taking responsibility--is maybe a metaphor for the whole gun issue. That is, no one in Washington or the NRA taking responsibility for the damage being done to our country and our youth by the out-of-control gun availability in our country. Peace.

  18. Too bad about the rain and the car. On the other hand, you did take some nice photos and can still blog like no one else.
