"Storms are tricky because the lightning is so fast, there is no tripod, and there is a lot of reflection from inside light,” he told the Post. Still, somehow, the seasoned pilot who calls flying and photography his “two greatest passions” managed to get the shot. The article also includes Santiago's website, which I just now checked out. It's filled with more astounding weather pictures. "The Post" mentioned in the above quote is referring to an article he wrote for the Washington Post about his picture. Which reminds me, I saw the movie The Post this past weekend and loved it!
I offer this as my mea culpa for not writing a post yesterday. There'll be another taken on tomorrow's probably rainy hike.
:-)
Amazing shot! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible shot. How wonderful that his passions complement each other.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great photo. Half the challenge in getting good shots is just showing up.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteI like Tom Hanks as an actor, but Meryl Streep has fallen a bit with her words about all the hollywood scandals. I must get past that tho, as I'm sure the movie is great!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image taken by the pilot. Now, I will go to the website.

It is indeed a beauty, Jan.
ReplyDeleteI know you schedule certain days for posts but I don't know which ones.
ReplyDeleteThe photo reminds me of a spectacular storm we circled coming out of the Memphis airport four summers ago. It was an enormous thunderhead, rising high above our altitude, with lightning flashing out of it, and with the clouds going pink from the distant setting sun. I wish I had been able to photograph it, but the image is sharp in my memory.
ReplyDeleteI have read a lot of comments on Facebook posted by people who will not go to movies because the HATE the actors starring in them, and don't think actors have any right to speak out about politics. Sheesh! I thought The Post was a very good movie and an important movie that acknowledged how important freedom of the press is to our democracy. That's a message we need to underscore right now.
Oh gracious! That is an incredible photo! Wow!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular photo!
ReplyDeleteThe right place at the right time with a camera. I think pilots with cameras get some really awesome shots! :) Have a good hike!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a photo! Surreal.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to see that movie. So much went on back then. We all heard about it but not in the behind the scenes way with the details that movies and books provide. Doesn't matter to me that they are not 110% accurate because we know what happened--all the basic facts are there. :)
