It's beginning, fall is almost here

Leaves are changing color

I took this picture earlier today as I began my walk home through Cornwall Park, after having visited the coffee shop and enjoyed my daily latte. It was a bit more crowded than I was comfortable with, but most people got their coffee and/or food and left quickly. Everyone was wearing a mask, but when you sit down to drink your coffee, you need to remove your mask. I couldn't help but think about that schoolteacher in California who lowered her mask to read to a class of elementary school kids and, through that action, infected more than half of the classroom. That means that this new Delta variant is incredibly contagious, and although I'm vaccinated, I don't feel nearly as safe as I did before.

I'll be in line to get a booster as soon as they make it available to me. I know it seems a little selfish for those of us who are already vaccinated to want even more protection, but at my age (and never having been tested for antibodies), I'll take whatever additional protection I can get. Our hospital is already seeing enough new infections that they are asking anybody who doesn't need to go to the hospital to stay away. This new surge is really worrisome.

It's obvious to me that, with such an incredible number of new infections every day around the entire country, there will be more variants to deal with in the future. Will we ever be truly over this pandemic? I'm beginning to wonder.

We are, however, just beginning to enter into my favorite time of the year: fall, when the leaves turn glorious colors and the air seems fresh and clear in a way it never does during summer. Sometimes we'll have Indian Summer for as long as a month, and I'm holding out hope that this will be one of those years.

:-)

  1. Pretty foliage D J!!

Yep, I understand your concern. From what I've read (and listened to) ... This Delta is extremely contagious. Tho vaccinated, I still mask up when indoors.

  2. While Spring (which I also enjoy) is making her presence felt here, Autumn is a spectacularly beautiful season. Enjoy it - to the max.
The Delta variant has hit my city and we are in lockdown. It is a tad inconvenient - but soooo much better than the alternative.
Stay well and safe dear friend.

  3. Not seen any signs of changing colour yet amongst the trees. You are right to be cautious with this new variant. I'm still wearing a mask when out and about.

  4. We wear our masks whenever out and about without fail. But I know what you mean when there's a lot of people around you... it's worrisome. Wonder if that feeling will ever go away? I was never good with crowds in the first place... now, more so. And yes, more variants will probably be coming - (I would think). And as awful as it is/was, at least Hurricane Ida got my mind off Covid and Afghanistan for a while.

  5. Still wearing our masks when we go out in public, you'd be surprised how lax people have become.
Fall is my favorite time of the year too, cooler weather and lots of colors :)

  6. Can't wait for the cool. This has been a brutally hot summer. Me too not really feeling safe and looking for the booster. I hear new variants are cooking as we fight this one. Sigh.

  7. Well I don't want to see any coloured leaves yet please! And when fall does arrive, say in November, I hope it's warm throughout.

  8. Not ready for fall! Or fall colors. But agree with you about everything else!

  9. I'll be getting a booster as soon as I can too.
That teacher story was shocking, but all the more reason why school employees should be required to be vaccinated.
The colored leaves I'm seeing are mostly just dried out. It was nice to see so much green at the coast.

  10. I agree it looks very bad and I am super cautious though southern Minnesota has a high vaccination percentage

  11. I was in Seattle during one of their Indian Summers. It was absolutely wonderful.

  13. I really miss seeing fall. You have the most beautiful scenery in your area of the country. I’m waiting for our military hospital to call us whenever that booster shot becomes available.

  14. We will get the third vaccination when it is available. Thank you for being part of the group that cares about other people. I think it is selfish and quite stupid to remain unvaccinated...just my opinion. I am scared about the new variants...we will stay safe wear our masks and mostly stay home.

  15. I think we do have something to worry about with this virus. It has many more curves to throw at us. I had my first shot in March and am looking for a booster. Here, people in long term care begin getting third shots Sept 1.

  16. Wow. The leaves are changing quickly. I’ve seen a few here too. The trees are in that dark green of late summer now.

    Stay safe, Jan.

  17. That tree does look very beautiful. You are lucky to have the 4 seasons, something we don't have here in Hawaii. Enjoy autumn and stay safe.

  18. Your photo at the top looks like a real painting. It really is lovely. As for the covid, yesterday our governor here in Pennsylvania this mandated that all School students from pre-k to 12 will be required to wear masks effective next week. And so it goes...

  19. I also would like that third shot; it's a possibility by the end of September but probably only for Pfizer. (at the moment)
