Rainy Monday

At Geneva Pond

I took this picture last Thursday when we went on our usual hike, four of us, expecting it to rain. That was why Melanie chose this hike, but guess what? It didn't rain at all, and we were able to enjoy ourselves and remain dry. Not so much today, however: it's raining hard enough outside to cause the remaining leaves to tremble as heavy drops accumulate on them.

We are getting ready for more restrictions because of Covid spreading quickly throughout our state. We are not alone. It makes me wonder about the future of Al's locks. In the picture you can see that he already has gone from his normal look of close-cropped curls to shoulder-length ones. He hasn't gotten his hair cut since the pandemic began in March. He's one of those lucky men who has kept the majority of his hair and I think he rather likes the fact that he can now pull it into a ponytail if he wants. Plus his wavy locks are rather handsome, if you ask me. I would let MY hair get that long if it looked as good as his does. (It doesn't.)

As of tomorrow, our gyms are closing, all indoor dining is curtailed for the next month or so, and we are being asked not to have any gatherings of more than five people in our homes. Fortunately for me, I'm not going anywhere for Thanksgiving, but I do feel badly for others who are not so lucky. It's going to be a terrible holiday season, I fear. Our shutdown starts at midnight tonight, so maybe I'll go looking for something to hoard. (Just kidding: I hope it won't be like it was in March.)

:-)

  1. I wish our governor had the guts to issue orders like that. Instead, we have counties repealing mask mandates and sending sick people to hospitals in neighboring states that are being responsible. Personal responsibility is failing badly in my red state.

  2. It's going to still be a rough few months.

  3. I am so sorry to read of the necessity. And so very glad to hear that your local government is prepared to act.
Stay safe, stay well, and I do hope you can still get out for socially distanced walks. And coffee.

  4. My family members all living in the North West if England, tell me it absolutely is getting worse. They are under the highest lockdown, tier three, and losing people everyday. Al has lovely locks 😂
    Stay well dear friend.
    Hugs,
    Jo

  5. I think we are in for some rough times. MN will probably add more restrictions soon. our numbers and deaths are way up. I saw something that said Stay Home Minnesota!

  6. Lock downs or not, just stay home and stay safe. It's going to take a lot more discipline and perseverance than people are apparently willing to give. As for the hair, ponytails are becoming the fashion. I cut DH's, but it's either a ponytail or braids for me these days.

  7. With the cold rain outside , today is an easy day to stay home. We went grocery shopping about 9:00 Sunday morning and were surprised to see more people shopping than we usually find on a Sunday morning. I guess there were long lines at Costco. We haven't been to Costco since March. Our nearby Safeway is enough these days.
Yesterday we notified Tom's brother and SIL that we would not be joining them at the Widbey cabin for Thanksgiving. They are flying up from California. What would have been a party of nine is now down to two or three. We will be staying home, with perhaps son Jake joining us.

  8. The vaccine on the horizon is still far enough away for the virus to kill lots of us. So sad. We just have to do the best we can to deal with it. Take care, Jan.

  9. I sort of wish that our government would lock it down more. I do appreciate that they are trying to tie their more stringent rules to the areas that need it most, though. It is hard to know what to do.

  10. Very sorry to hear about your state DJan, a little surprised too; it seemed that until very recently, Washington was being spared the rise in cases. I wonder what happened? I think mine (Penna) is next, sure am glad I have a barber appt Wednesday--my hair doesn't exactly grow handsome curls! Anyway, sure hope you stay safe but get your outdoor time too.

  11. It is rampant everywhere and you are lucky your governor has the courage to do the right thing. I hope people try to refrain from large family gatherings. Good thing for you that you enjoy the outdoors. Safest place to be right now.

  12. You know, we've been in shutdowns before. It wasn't too bad so we'll be able to do it again. Covid has got away on the world. We can't just wait for a vaccine.

  13. I do know one thing, I will NOT run out of T P again. Ya, I'm with you on that one...long hair isn't the look for me either. Our local news showed the entire state of Washington under a blanket of snow clouds...hmmm!

  14. I'll be all alone on thanskgiving! Safe, even from the husband. Still, here at my Florida condo, there are people who don't wear masks in the elevator. Sigh. And there are elderly people that live here. It makes me so angry. Why fellow humans???? Sigh agin. Sometimes I wear two masks. And some people won't wear one. Sorry to vent.

  15. Apparently here in the Dakotas they don't care much what happens to us--LOL! But the governor of North Dakota FINALLY said people have to wear masks. We don't even know what the state rules are because there have been so few. We have been following strict CDC guidelines on our own since March and steering clear of all human beings--LOL!

  16. Unfortunately it does not look good for this winter. I can’t believe that many people still believe the virus is a hoax.
Apart from my driving back to Georgia to vote I have not done any traveling. I’ll drive back from Nashville to GA in mid-December to vote on the senate runoff. I don’t think Tennessee or Georgia will close their states – they are both run by republican governors, although, Georgia is starting to change.
This will be my first year, since I came to the US, that I will celebrate Thanksgiving alone. I bought some turkey drumsticks and thighs so I can still have a turkey dinner. Stay warm and safe.

  17. England is in its second lockdown until Dec 2nd. Numbers are rising all the time here so I'm not going far from home. The rules are not quite as strict as last time as schools are still open. We can also go for a walk outside with one other person. It feels like we will never get back to the way things used to be.

  18. My hair does not look good past my chin, either. Good for Al that his does. As for the pandemic, it is sad that we still have not been able to stay open for good.

  19. Hawaii is also in a bit of a lockdown. And we must all mask up. I read in one of your comments that your Smart Guy got COVID and you might have been asymptomatic too. I hope you were able to develop antibodies.
