Three-day heat wave

My toes in the icy water of Lake Ann
Today is the third day of unusual heat here in the Pacific Northwest. We are just not used to this kind of weather, but today, Saturday (the third day), it's not as hot. On Thursday, when we were hiking in the sun, it got to 88°F here in Bellingham, breaking the record of 85° set in 1965, and then yesterday it reached 90°F, breaking yet another record. Today we won't break any old records, which makes me very happy.

When I took my shoes and socks off and stuck my toes in the water on Thursday, I was shocked at how icy cold the water is. My hat is off to those two who actually went all the way in. I think my heart might have stopped!

This morning I went walking with the ladies, and we went almost nine miles! My GPS tracker actually said it was a full nine, but we had others showing a shorter distance, but not by much. I'll always take the higher number. It was cool and delightful for the walk, and now it's almost 4:00pm and the temperature is 79°, just right! I just cannot imagine how those of you who deal hot temperatures daily manage to get by. Oh, right, you have air conditioning. We don't usually need it.

The days are getting shorter, so the hot days are numbered for this summer. I couldn't be happier about it. Stay cool; ice cream helps.
:-)

  6. Dang....for some reason, your blog is not being posted my reader! I've missed a post of yours. But, I'm here now.

Love your painted toe nails. And the whole concept of putting your feet in icy water sound soooooooooo refreshing. In fact, the ice cream doesn't sound so bad either.

Now, I gotta go fix my reading list and re-add your url...or something. So I won't be missing your posts again.

  7. We had a break in the heat, too, for a couple days. Supposed to be back up to 90 again Monday and Tuesday but then back down into the 70s. I guess maybe fall is coming. ;) Love the pink toes!! :)

  8. I certainly don't like heat or do well in it. I look forward to cooler days. I do think you can get used to higher temps.

  9. You also have high humidity. I remember moving our daughter out of her dorm one late May day and nearly falling over in the heat. Then I found out it was 78 degrees! The humidity, however, was in the 60 percentile. We rarely get as high as 20% humidity here with most days around 10%.

  11. Yes, it's been over 100 degrees here in Portland for the last three days and we are definitely not used to this! Luckily, today is "only" supposed to be in the 80s. Keep cool and hope for an early fall!

  12. We have had hundreds most of the summer but we are prepared for it with A/C but are just as housebound as if snowed in. I can imagine how those high temps you have had are such a shock on your system. You normally have temps to be envied. Hope you are back to normal soon.

That water looks cold from here.
Hopefully, the temperatures will cool off nation wide.
    Hugs,
    J.

  14. We've had far too many of those hot humid days! July is rapdily becoming the worst month of the year. Hope our cooler temps stay right with us now.

  15. I like your pink nail varnish DJan and I'm impressed you can still reach your toes to do it! Or did you have a pedicure?
We are set for a heatwave here too, starting tomorrow. We can expect 29 degrees so I won't be doing much. We don't have air conditioning either. Like you we rarely need it.

  16. Reminds me about the Indian summer in the Bay area. We were hot on the beach, but when we waded into the water, it was freezing. I was amazed at the contrast in temperatures.
