Clouds cleared and it turned gorgeous

From our beautiful green walk this morning
It was on the chilly side with a chance of rain when Lily and I set out for our walk with the ladies today. Since it was the grueling walk up Taylor Street and down the 104 stairs, we didn't have much of a turnout, just ten of us. I was glad it was cool and overcast while toiling up that street. Then down the stairs and a quick walk over to the Interurban trail, somewhere around 4-ish miles.
A private garden
I was so delighted to see this wonderful front-yard garden on the way back, showing that (dare I say it) June is busting out all over, everything in full bloom, including that pretty ground cover on the left, little star-shaped lavender flowers.
First strawberries from my garden
Once I got home, I went out to check the condition of my own garden, and figured I'd better pick the ripe strawberries before they catch the eye of our local slug population. Sweet and bite free, they were a wonderful treat before I headed to the movie theater to see Wonder Woman with my friend Judy. It has gotten great reviews, and it takes a lot to get me to see a superhero movie, but I was curious about this one. I enjoyed it very much, although it was a tad long and, as one of the reviewers from the Atlantic said, (Christopher Orr),
The final big action sequence, as now seems always to be the case, is a messy and overwrought CGI extravaganza. But at least the movie that precedes it involves actual characters—likeable ones, even!—exhibiting recognizable human emotions.
And I have to say that it deserves its 93% freshness rating from Rotten Tomatoes (the link above). It made me feel very good when I walked out of the theater to have seen a good strong woman kicking some serious butt!

  1. Love that garden you walked past. Mmmm strawberries. You can keep climing 104 stairs though. I am not even certain I could. And know I would pay for it later.

  2. I'm not sure what is harder, climbing up a steep street or coming back down all those steps. At least going up is a good workout.
I have been hearing good things about Wonder Woman. I'm not into action adventure over the top super hero movies, but i might have to see this one eventually.

  3. 104 steps? It's okay as long as you don't have any health issues. We have a 105 step stairs and i don't mind doing it.

  5. Hooray for ripe strawberries! We're starting to get some too. I'm not much for movies, but the Wonder Woman movie intrigues me. I might have to see it.

  7. And congratulations on your strawberries. My daughter just harvested ONE. The others went to the slugs.

  8. The steps sound daunting but thankfully it was cool.

I loved Wonder Woman. I enjoyed the clothing store scene, clothes of the era and a fashion show in a superhero movie and not out of character. A fun, entertaining movie about a powerful woman! Sequel please!

  9. Strawberries look great! And I'm so happy that you really liked Wonder Woman too! It is definitely not your 'normal' super hero movie!

  10. Yikes 104 steps up would have done me in. Down, I might have managed:) Glad it didn't stop you. First harvest is always the best. Glad you enjoyed Wonder Woman. I'll have to wait for the DVD since we don't have a theater here.

  11. Inviting pathway, pretty garden, delicious strawberries, and Wonder Woman. Dagan and Leah recommended the movie to me after they watched it at the theater last night. :)

  12. Dear DJan, I read a positive review of this film also and hope to see it. The chase and the extravaganza of many films just seem like so much noisy clutter to me! Peace.

  15. Okay...I'll be singing this song now all day. You got me going.

Yummy strawberries, and home grown tomatoes can't be beat. I'm ready. Got salt? [I hafta have a little sprinkle of salt on my tomato!]

As for the movie you mentioned in my comments the other day with Robert Redford [All is Lost I'm assuming] didn't really terrify me much...I kept thinking all along to myself, what is that man doing out there in the open sea, sailing, all by himself and at his age. Boggles the mind, the ignorance of some people. Just a so so movie. IMHO
