DJan and Leo at the coffee shop |
My gift to myself will be to get an iPhone6. I debated about whether or not to upgrade from my iPhone4S to a 5S, but once I saw how good the camera is in the 6, I was sold. (The new iPad and the iPhone6 have the same camera.)
Today is Veteran's Day here in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. It also marks Armistice Day in Europe, the day when World War I ended and an armistice with Germany was signed: the 11th month of the 11th day at the 11th hour. I forgot to notice the moment at 11:00; I was standing in the cold wind waiting for the bus to arrive and completely forgot about it until I began to write this post. When I was a young woman, I thought that maybe I would live to see the end of war. Now I know better, but still one could hope for that someday. Emily Dickinson wrote this poem about hope:
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land,Thank you, one and all.
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
little leo is not so little anymore. :) and i'm glad you like the ipad so much that you'll upgrade your phone, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI too dream that some day war will be a facet of history rather than an ever present reality.
ReplyDeleteAnd love Emily Dickinson's work, that poem in particular.
Have a wonderful day.
We too celebrate Remembrance Day - yesterday.
You are on the cutting edge with all the technology. I have the Iphone 5, but will upgrade when my contract allows. I'd like to get a new reader for Christmas from my hubby, but not sure what is the best route to take, as I want the internet, pictures and the reader!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even bring a camera to Hawaii this time. My iPhone does just fine.
ReplyDeleteLeo is just adorable. What a heart breaker he will be.
ReplyDeleteI forgot 11 o'clock today also but took the time later.
I think we are looking at the decline of the actual camera, with the exception of sporting events. I wish I had something less cumbersome than my Sony for pictures.
Oh my, little Leo is growing into a big, handsome boy!
ReplyDeleteWar...yeah, wouldn't it be wonderful if it just went away?
That Leo guy is looking good. So are you, for that matter.
ReplyDeleteI stood in silence at 11:00. Every year there is a major event at our national war memorial, and it is televised nationally. I try not to miss it.
And as for Emily and her bird, may it always be fond of your!
Blessings and Bear hugs!
What a lovely photo of you and Leo! I feel privileged to have watched him grow up! You are on the ball keeping up with technology...you go girl:)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you have Leo in your life.
ReplyDeleteOn our trip I used my iPhone camera for photos to post on Facebook. I took my little Canon with the 30X zoom for everything else. No big Nikon to lug around. I do love my iPhone 5c. I have another year to go before upgrading.
Great that you are able to make young friends. I'm puzzling over the phone thing. It would be a big step for me. When I was a child we were terrified that the bomb would be used.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a handsome young friend there DJan :)
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at buying a tablet lately, despite the promise to myself I will step back from all the fast-paced technology. *sigh*
Enjoy your new gadget...lots of pictures in your future..sweet.
~Jo
What lovely lad. And you look good too.
ReplyDeleteIPad air is on my wish list but I'll stick to my iPhone 5S for a bit longer. Buddy wants to upgrade but this year I think we'll wait a bit. He already has iPad air.

That photo of you and Leo is absolutely precious.
ReplyDeleteI love my Canon PowerShot camera and use it exclusively. I can't imagine switching to a cellphone or tablet.
Beautiful photo. Children grow so quickly these days. This is such a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet photo of the two of you. Nice that you share a birthday month.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a lovely poem.
I'm listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast about World War I -- absolutely fascinating, chilling stuff. Makes me appreciate the vets even more.
ReplyDeleteLeo is so precious. And your pretty terrific, too.
ReplyDeleteOnly camera I have now is the one on my iPhone. Terry still has a big professional grade sony that he uses for his work. It takes amazing pictures, or at least HE can make it take amazing pictures.
Two peas in a pod, you and that Leo! Enjoy the iPhone 6.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwwww, sweet, sweet image of the two of you. He's adorable.
ReplyDeleteAs for all the gadgets that keep getting upgraded for 'improved' mechanisms, I don't want to keep up with them. I live in the 20th century still. lol
And on my list of favorite poems this one near the top. Perhaps its had something to do with my interest in birding. :)
ReplyDeleteThat has always been one of my very favorite poems..."Hope is a thing with feathers..."
ReplyDeleteLeo is definitely growing up... even in our eyes through your pictures.
And 11/11 is also my oldest grandson's birthday. He just turned 16!
The iPhone6 camera IS wonderful. But I can't make myself spend the money when I can upgrade from my 4 to a 5S in Jan. at no cost - but one day....
