November musings

Wet leaves on a sidewalk
I took this picture on the way to the bus this morning. All the leaves came down after we had a windy night and over a half-inch of rain. Because of the time change, I actually had some light at 7:30am. These are really leaves and not colorful stars in a slate sky; I couldn't help but pull out my ever-present cellphone and get this shot.

I am enraptured with my new iPad Air 2. I take it everywhere, but it's just not as easy to take out and get a picture with a tablet, I'm finding. My phone was in my pocket, and the iPad was in my purse, zipped into a secure place. Although I'll find myself more likely to use it for pictures when it's actually out and in use, for now the cellphone is my camera of choice. But the other aspects of the iPad are wonderful: it's light and easy to use, and MUCH faster than my old iPad. I never thought I'd appreciate the retina display, but I sure do. When I compare the two screens, I realize how much sharper and beautiful my pictures look on the new iPad. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Me with Gretchen
I got my hair cut today by a new stylist, since my usual one is out of town for an extended period. I heard about the Honey Salon from a friend at the YMCA. Although the stylist she recommended has a waiting list until next year, I was able to get into see Gretchen in a little more than a week. She specializes in razor cuts and short hair, so I was happy to get a chance for a new look. She is very good, and I'll wait until I see how my hair looks after I've slept on it, but right now I'm very pleased with the way it feels. Somehow it never looks quite the same after I've shampoo'd and styled it myself, you know?

The sun has come out after several days of rain, and it should be nice until late tomorrow night, Wednesday, with Thursday looking like a complete washout. Our hiking day. That will make three Thursdays in a row, and after such a nice dry summer, October and now November have been really wet. If we didn't get another drop of rain, we'd be right at average for the entire year. And we still have two months to go. Well, you know what they say: into every life some rain must fall. Does it always have to be on Thursday, though?
:-)

  2. I love how the wet leaves look.. so colourful and saturated.

And I can only imagine how easy it is for you to make a new friend.. like.. for example.. a hair stylist. "Hey, will you join me in a selfie for my blog?" ;)

    You're a gem, DJan. :)

  4. Right now I've got a great stylist in Seattle for my curly PNW hair. Also a great one in Tucson for my straight-hair-in-dry-weather Arizona hair. I am a lucky woman!

  5. We've had a fairly dry fall although it rained this afternoon. Now I will predict that a little rain in your life will not prevent you from hiking.

  6. You look great after your hair cut, and Gretchen looks like a lively soul.

Sorry to hear your rain woes. We've been getting rain here, too, instead of snow. I don't know if that means anything, but that's what has been happening.

And the leaves are quite exciting. Much better than our wall-to-wall yellow.

    Blessings and Bear hugs, DJan!

  7. I LOVE the leaf stars. Just beautiful.
And that is a gorgeous haircut too. My only requirement is that my hair should be 'wash and wear'. No product, no blow-drying...
Jealous thoughts about your rain though. We are being promised a hotter/dryer summer. Sigh.

  8. I like that photo with the wet leaves on the sidewalk. I was out walking yesterday after our snowstorm and I was amazed at the leaves all mixed up with it and the amount still on trees that haven't fallen yet. We have had a dusting of snow before Halloween before, but never an Nor'Easter with everything. I also like your cute haircut DJan - HEY - what's a little rain to you honey, who climbs mountains and jumps outta planes. Hope you get a clean Thursday soon. lol

  9. Wow, your leaf color is awesome. We are carpeted with brown and beige.
Scary breaking in a new stylists. She did a great job but like you said, the next day the test. For me it is after my first shampoo.

  10. The leaves on the street are absolutely beautiful. And I love your new do. I share with you the frustration that it never looks the same after I shampoo and dry after a cut.

  11. Gorgeous leaves--I love all the varied colors. I know what you mean about the iPad not being a very handy camera, but I get a kick out of having such a big viewscreen as I set up a shot. Only good in certain circumstances, but fun. Glad you're loving your new toy!

As for the rain, at least it is better than drought.

  15. Yay for a good hair dresser. I love your cut and I'm sure it will still look good even after you wash it. A good cut does that, it holds up well.

  17. I do like your picture of those colorful leaves – there is quite a variety of colors. I also like your new hairdo. Nowadays it is so much easier to take care of hairstyles - I still remember years ago going to the hair salon and having large rollers placed on my head then having to sit under the large hair dryer – seems ages ago.
