Toastry HOT

We are in the midst of a heat wave, with an advisory for the entire area, but it's actually nothing compared to what some parts of the country are experiencing. It got to 85 degrees F here in Bellingham, the hottest temperature of the season so far. I had absolutely no desire to hike today, especially after my horrendously uncomfortable excursion last week. In fact, I almost didn't have the energy to traipse down to the basement with my week's laundry, but I did. I was quite exhausted afterwards, and it was nothing much, just the usual work of washing, drying, folding and putting it all together. I was surprised at how enervating it was, but it sure feels good to have it behind me. Tomorrow is a trip to the new Senior Center for yoga; the new place is air conditioned, so I think I'll be enjoying that. Then on Thursday is my usual volunteer work at the old place, which doesn't have A/C but it is supposed to be a few degrees cooler.

I am not a fan of hot weather, even warm and sultry weather is not fun for me. I much prefer a cool breeze and overcast skies, but then again, I am spoiled and not acclimatized to the heat. In any event, I am looking forward to some respite from the unrelentingly blue skies, which most people seem to love.

Foxglove

The flowers certainly do seem to love the weather, however, and I suppose if I spent most of the year underground, waiting for the chance to emerge and shine, I might feel differently. I love the pretty foxglove and am delighted when it shows its beauty.

Hope you are having a wonderful summer, not too hot, not too cold. And that you are surrounded by fragrant and beautiful flowers!

  1. I agree that 85 F is hot, DJan. But will certainly take it over the 90's and triple digits any day. Luckily here most places have AC... unless there's a storm and your power goes out. Inside a home it can get to that 100 F quickly. One of the reasons we got a generator (for the heat -more than the cold).

  2. Supposed to be hotter than normal all summer apparently. I am not a fan of the heat, either. Having chronic fatigue, I know how enervating laundry can be...any task can be...and how wonderfully satisfying it is to be done with said task. :)

  3. It will be in the 90s today — very hot, sticky 90s. We had an early walk and a wee bit of shopping, and now we’re in for the day.

  4. The older I get the more heat is a challenge. It cuts down on my outdoor time.

  5. After a full week of over 100F degree days we are on a cool-down. Terry is out mowing the lawn this morning because it's only 70F degrees. The high should only be 98F today. I am quite happy when the summer days stay below 100F. The 90s are just fine for me.

  6. Feels like 41 C here today. Hot and sunny too. All effort is expended early morning if at all possible. Stay cool, my friend.

  7. We are finally cooler and less humid and we have no wildfire smoke today so that is a blessing! I try to do a load of laundry everyday so I don't get behind, I have a stacked washer and dryer so it does not handle huge loads of laundry...which is fine with me:)

  8. It's 84 here at just before noon. We have turned the air conditioner on, set at 74, and I am not planning to do any outside work today. Tom just came in after spending an hour watering things outside. He said it wasn't too bad, but he should be in for the day. He can handle heat. I can't.
It will be the predicted 90 when we grab an early dinner at a Subway shop and then take the light rail to the stadium for a Sounders game. I consented to going long before I knew it would be hot. The train is air conditioned, and the club lounge is, but the seating, while in the shade, and the walking from station to stadium, are not. Wish me luck. I will be carrying water. :-/

  9. PreCovid we used to go to Bellingham to escape the heat, then we went to Nanaimo, then Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. All those became hotter than we wanted. We're lucky that we can afford to go somewhere, but finding a cooler place is getting tough. Climate change is real. I had to laugh about "unrelenting blue skies," which is something I said after we moved to Colorado from western Oregon years ago. It proceeded to rain for about a week after I said that, causing the natives to complain bitterly. I loved it, however.
