Spring has sprung

Blossoms are out everywhere

Actually, I took this picture last April 9th, and so far this season, these flowers are still to come. I've changed the route I take to the bus every morning where I snapped these pictures, wanting to give myself a little more distance, but I did take a look to see how these are doing today, March 22nd. They still have a ways to go. If we continue to have plenty of blue skies and warmish temperatures, I might be able to duplicate this shot this year on the same day.

I went looking for spring pictures, because the season is definitely here, and showing up in blossoming trees, daffodils, and tulips pushing out of the ground but not yet showing their flowers. Many of us are so anxious for our conditions to change, to get back to some sort of normal life.

Our governor just announced last week that the entire state would move from Phase 2 to Phase 3 guidelines for Covid, meaning that almost all activities that I once took advantage of will return, even if not in full numbers. My gym is again offering hour-long workout possibilities, but you have to register ahead of time and of course everyone will be wearing masks while working out. I have missed the stationary bike I once rode daily, and I'm happy to be able to return to that activity once again.

I get my second Covid vaccine shot tomorrow, so by mid-April, I'll be fully vaccinated against the virus, but you won't see me taking my mask off any time soon inside any stores. As the weather gets warm enough, I'll still be sitting outside my coffee shop, as they are not thinking about opening the doors quite yet. They would be able to provide 50% occupancy under the Phase 3 guidelines, but it's not very well ventilated and I would rather stay outdoors in any event.

But! Rather than concentrating on what I can't do yet, I'm happy to concentrate on how we are managing to get the virus under control around here. It sure makes me feel more secure when I see everyone around me still masking up. The usual winter flu cases are almost nonexistent this year, because of wearing our masks against the coronavirus. And nobody I know has had so much as a cold for the same reason.

It reminds me of the old saying that it's an "ill wind that blows nobody good." At least we stayed healthier than usual during the fall and winter. And as I said in the title, SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Yay!

:-)

  1. I have a stationary bike just sitting in the garage. Too bad I can't ship it to you.

  3. Yes, spring has sprung here too! We're in a district that has had few cases all along and we're in a green level now too.

  5. They are opening up appointments here to people born in 1946 or earlier. We came into this world one year later. Their actual appointments are still for two or three weeks down the road. The projected time for us has always been May, so nothing has changed really.

  6. I was talking with a colleague today who also said that this winter he had not had the usual cold one tends to get, and credited the mask for that.

  7. You guys have such a gorgeous spring every year. I'm always awed by your photos. I'm having a hard time getting used to feeling safer. We're going to try indoor dining this week since we're all vaccinated. I wish I could feel normal. I think it's going to be a slow step by step process.

  8. Spring makes us want to get outdoors and check out the good stuff that's going on. I hope that the covid shots turn the pandemic around.

  9. Daffodils are blooming in my yard. The neighbors have pink blooming plum trees. The forsythia is opening its multitude of little yellow flowers. I found the first violets blooming way down close to the ground. Our primroses are exploding in color.
Today I decorated for Spring/Easter. There will be a blog post.
We ate in a restaurant with a small group on Friday in a mostly empty restaurant. For now, unless things take another downturn, we are back to joining our friends at our Friday breakfasts. We still try to go grocery shopping when fewer people are shopping and we wear masks, of course, but we are way less freaked out about going shopping. We no longer wipe things down. We just wear masks, try to keep distance, and wash hands. We don't know what the future holds, but we can take small, careful steps to getting our lives back.

  10. Spring here means green pastures, happy cows and lawn mowing. I have already started. Our Bradford Pear trees-ornamentals-are in full bloom. Really pretty.

  11. Happy Spring! I am sure you have more spring than we do. I hope your shot goes okay and you don't have side effects. Some people here are just ignoring the mask signs...I cannot believe it...so stupid. The anti vax people are out in force too...oh well that is one way to cull out that part of the population. :)

  14. Yes, it is wise to be cautious. Remember the vaccine is 95% effective so remember the 5% that is not effective.
