Saturday musings

Diane took this of me last Thursday, July 16, 2015
On our Thursday hike, Diane took two pictures of me, and once I saw them I immediately realized that I need a haircut! I got online to see when I had the last one and realized it's been exactly six weeks. Short hair doesn't last any longer than that without beginning to get rather, um, unwieldy. I don't wear makeup and I don't pay much attention to my hair until it gets right around this stage.

I made an appointment to get it cut Tuesday, and then on Wednesday I'm going to do something I haven't done in ages: camp out with some of my hiking buddies. Five of us are going to drive to a campground near Baker Lake, make a nice hike on Wednesday evening and then a longer one on Thursday. I'm not going to join the usual Thursday hikers, who are going to Hannegan Pass, which is supposed to be sunny, if not as warm as past weeks, and most of the hike is in full sunshine.

And I have to admit that I am definitely addicted to this new app on my phone. I wrote about it awhile back, but I didn't think that I'd actually be more likely to walk and work out MORE because of it, but that's what's happened. You can see that before noon today I had walked almost 15,000 steps (it was partly because of my usual Saturday walk with the ladies). Anything over 12,500 is considered highly active, so I guess I qualify. My daily average for the week is also quite respectable. You can see the spike on Thursday, which represents our Skyline Divide excursion of almost eight miles. I take Sundays off from exercise, which is the low point on July 12, last Sunday.

Isn't technology wonderful? And you'll be subjected to my next Thursday's post of our Noisy Creek hike instead of the Trailblazers trip up Hannegan Pass. I hope they have fun without me; I know I'm looking forward to this adventure.

  3. I am also getting a haircut on Tuesday - to reclaim my face. No adventures on Wednesday though.
Have a heap of fun. Which you will - and I am looking forward to the Noisy Creek(wonderful name) post.

  4. That is such a cool picture of you and I know what you mean about the short life of a haircut. I had to go really short with my surgery and it all ready needs cutting again. I miss my perm.
Camping use to be my all time favorite thing to do with a group. Food never tastes better nor conversations livelier than when "roughing it." Have a great time.

  8. The idea of camping is fun, but not the actual. I need a decent bed. However, I envy the fun you'll have with your friends.

  10. Since I've seen you in person, I can truly attest that you look fabulous without make-up, long hair, short hair, anything!

I wish I could be motivated right now to go out and do some walking, but I am feeling so lazy. Darn!

  12. I haven't had a hair cut in maybe nine months...but maybe this week...it grows so fast, but what is the difference when it is in a bun all the time or a doubled on itself pony tail...but it takes forever to dry.
I am walking between 1 and 2 miles a day...nothing by your standards!
Your camping trip sounds like fun and I bet you will have a great time! I look forward to hearing all about it! :)

  13. My hair grows so fast, its every four weeks for me. Camping out with friends, campfire conversations and stories, singsongs, giggles, food tastes better, sleeping out under the stars -fireside coffee in the morning, stoking the fire......aah one of my fav things to do - You will have so much fun. I love this Apple App too and use it all the time - Have a wonderful time DJan.

  14. I'm a short hair person, so I can relate. I'm usually getting it trimmed in four weeks, but that can get past you easily. Like your new app, my friend has it on her phone.

  15. Technology IS wonderful! I like short hair, but not particularly fond of how it looks on me. Gotta check out that app! Your mid week plans sound wonderful!

  16. That is one piece of technology that I actually like!

I recently cut my hair shorter than it's ever been and now I can almost name the exact date it is by the first morning I look in the mirror after doing my hair and say "what the heck happened here!"

    Have a great time camping!

  21. I can't wait to hear all about the camping trip!!! The best thing for me when we camped out in the Rockies as a younger lady [single AND married] was the breakfasts cooked on an open fire....Bacon, eggs, muffins....all so yummy when eaten on camping trips.

Ya, me too...I like my short, short hair. And wear no makeup. We are two peas in a pod. LOL
