Benign nodules

Not only are the crocuses finally beginning to bloom, but I got a call from my doctor's office this morning telling me that the two thyroid nodules biopsied last Friday are not cancerous. The nurse said that the doctor suggested I have another ultrasound in six months to ascertain any changes in them, but for now, there is nothing to be concerned about! That was very good news, and then I saw that the crocuses have decided to show their beauty, several weeks later than last year, but still, here they are!

I am struggling with the time change, along with everyone else. Today on the bus, I saw at least three students on their way to Bellingham Technical College (the bus stops there on the way to town) snoozing in their seats. Since I just spent three weeks in the Eastern Time Zone and had finally begun to adjust, now this little hour time change seems to have my biorhythms mightily confused. I went to bed early and woke before 5:00 am. Shouldn't I be going in the other direction? The sunlight at the end of the day will be welcome, once we actually get some. It's been day after day of rain and wind since I returned a week ago.

On Sunday I went lap swimming in the YMCA pool. Since I have joined the Y for another year, I'll be using their 20-yard pool to integrate this activity into my workout routine. It's sure not the same as swimming in Norma Jean's 25-yard-long outdoor Olympic-sized pool. I couldn't believe how warm the water was; it was almost like getting into a bathtub. They allow snorkels and fins during lap swimming, and I was disconcerted now and then by a guy's flippers who kept diving down to the bottom in the lane over from me. The lanes are quite wide, and I shared mine with another woman who swims at about the same pace as me. Another woman asked to join us, but I have never gone in circles as they suggested we might try. I swam my 44 lengths (a half mile) and noticed yesterday that my arms were a little tired, I figured from swimming.

Getting back into my usual routine has been harder than I anticipated. Is it because of all the emotional upset I've been through lately? As my day's activities have begun to fall into place, I am still looking for the serenity I seem to have misplaced.
:-}

  1. Any time you come home from a trip like yours to Florida, I think it is normal to feel your serenity has been misplaced. Emotions aren't rubber bands, they don't immediately spring back into place, it's a process.

I am more than excited your biopsy was negative. You're free from worry on that issue.

Be kind to yourself. Your serenity will return.

  6. Oh, I'm so thrilled about the results! Thank you for letting us know so quickly.

You're not the only one having trouble with the time change. We were so looking forward to the longer daylight hours but have been too tired to much enjoy them...

I imagine everything that you've been through lately has thrown you off stride. It probably doesn't help that you know you're about to turn around and leave town again. I bet after you get back from Texas things will fall back into place.

  7. Hooray for good test results! I needed one less thing to worry about, and this is it! Yay!

I hear serenity is overrated, but I wouldn't know from experience. Just embrace the chaos of life! ;-)

  9. Dear DJan, I think you've had more than your share of medicals to cope with in your life already so I am more than happy to hear your news! Great news xx
Like you, I am struggling with the time change. It wasn't mentioned on our news so we both forgot. I was unaware because in England we don't turn forward the clock until the end of March. I hate the darker mornings, just awful. The lighter evenings make no difference to me at all so all in all I wish they'd leave it alone.
Love the crocuses. They fully explain your feelings today without words, n'est ce pas?
    Star xx

  10. Great news about the biopsy results, and a great photo to celebrate with! The time change has me exhausted and messed up too, and I think changes like the ones you experienced during your visit to Florida can leave us drained for a very long time. Swimming will certainly help, and sunshine will be a blessing when it decides to come along. Meanwhile, rest and take care!

  11. I'm so happy for you on your biopsy results. Hurray! I also believe that all that's happening in Japan is affecting us. You may be feeling the energy from all that chaos and sorrow. It can make us feel depleted, too. Just a thought. Meanwhile, celebrate life in the simple things, the quiet moment.

  12. YIPPEEE!!! GREAT news...(course I totally expected them to be benign)

    Your crocuses are GORGEOUS!!

You and me both! Between that dang CPAP mask and the time change, I notice a real dip in my energy around 5pm. I am really to go to bed!

Please go to my other blog Mystical Journeys. There is a pic of a bunny I know you will appreciate...in addition, Izzy after a grooming appt and her cousin she will meet at weeks end, Dutch, the chocolate lab...

  13. You should be more serene now because of the good news regarding your benign nodules!

In Hawaii, the time never changes as it does on the mainland. So we never spring forward or fall back. lol.

I admire you so much, DJan. You are my role model. If only I would exercise at least one hour or even 30 minutes a day, that would be an accomplishment!

  14. What wonderful news about your test results – I am so happy for you. The crocuses look so dainty and their color is lovely. I think they look happy for you too – opening their little yellow heart as wide as they can.

  15. Great news about the biopsy, DJan! Sounds like you need a really good hike and a little sunshine though!

    It's raining here too.

  16. Fabulous news on the biopsy!

On the day of the time change we flew to Houston, so I'm not sure exactly where we are in time!

  17. This is great news! Again, adjustments to time changes, new surroundings, new routines, and even to the ones we love most are never easy. Give yourself some healing time.

  18. Great news, I am happy for you.
We have a great wellness center here with a walking pool, called the turtle. Seven walks around against the current is a mile. Love it because I can walk there without my walking stick.

  19. Yay!
Nothing like a good medical test result to make you grateful for good health.
I'm happy and relieved for you and, once again, amazed at how the blogosphere creates connections.
Also, the time change has wiped me out too. Blech!

  20. What wonderful news..Praise God! Prayers are answered!! Now just breathe..and be. Your serenity will return but not until everything is in it's place..probably after the trip to be with all your siblings :)

  22. So happy to hear your biopsy's were negative. So pleased for you.
It must be lovely to see signs of Spring, we need to have a lot of sunshine and warm weather to melt our snow before anything green can come through. I know it won't be long though.....:-)Hugs

  23. What good news! Thanks for letting us know right away. You can see how many of your readers were wating to hear the results of that biopsy.

  24. Oh DJ, I'm so glad to hear the good news! I've been praying for you.
I know what you mean about the time change. For you to go through the 3 hr. jet lag change along with the Spring ahead change, I would also be more goofed up than I am now! I've been wide awake until midnight and then can't get up until 8:30 am. Oh well, I'm getting more done at night! Your serenity will come. Now you're swimming and I'm still sitting on my butt!

  25. I'm so relieved that your biopsy report was good news!
March in the PNW is not a serene month. It's a big tease that hints at spring and gives us rain and wind and thunderstorms followed by patches of blue just to trick us. It's unsettling and leaves us all wanting. This too will pass.

  26. WooHoo!! I'm so glad the test was benign. Congratulations!!

The time change is doing us in as well. I usually try and adapt the kids slowly to it the week before, but completely forgot this time, so we are all thrown off. Emma was late to school Monday, and we stood in a long line in the office of other families who were late as well, so at least it wasn't just us!

I hope you get back into your normal routine soon!

  27. Good to hear that your thyroid testing came back non cancerous.
Sometimes getting out of the routine for a while can be a good thing. Too much auto pilot isn't good. Stimulus to get us going at something different helps.

  30. Maybe the serenity you want back is coming back in bits. You were gone for a long time. You did things in Florida you don't do at home. There were loved ones there you had a chance to spend quality time with. The whole trip was emotional and at the same time an adventure. Gosh, hubby and I spent one day this week going a couple hours away and we got through the junk awaiting us there, spent too much time in the car on the way back because we got lost, rather went the wrong way, and it was exhausting and on top of that I had a pinched nerve in my back so yesterday I could barely move. I'm talking about ONE day, and you dealt with weeks and love and death and grieving and much much more. Hope you have sunshine like you are hoping for right now.

  31. Patty and I should join our new Y. It is huge and we have an insurance plan that includes membership there but so far we haven't. I would like to begin walking somewhere.

  32. There you are, all's well.
    Congratulations!
What's a little thing like time changes compared to that? You'll soon get used to it.

  33. I'm so glad for you that your test results were good news. I'm looking forward to more nice spring pictures from your future adventures. Have a happy spring.

  34. I am clapping my hands with joy! This is one of these times when the word negative is a good thing.

Going from coast to coast and getting used to the time differences coming back can be hard enough without the emotional strain but to throw in a time change on top of all that has got to be a little tough.

  35. Congratulations on your negative biopsy, I have been so worried since you blogged that you were waiting to hear the results. Whew.
The Universe knows this is NOT the time to have you handle that one.
So, so happy for you!!! xxoo

  37. DJan- I read a few of your blog posts this morning and my heart is full (always a good thing, as you say). You are a gifted and insightful writer and a truly kind soul. I am even more honored to have you as a follower. And THIS news is wonderful! I trust you are finding your way back to serenity.

  38. Benign?! WONDERFUL NEWS!!! :o)

You must have felt an enormous weight fall off your shoulders when you heard that! Just be sure to have them checked out regularly, keep an eye on them.

I'm still surprised that the US has already switched to daylight savings... we don't do it in Europe until the last Sat in March. So I guess that will be this weekend.

  39. Geesh, I could've quit worrying eight days ago? Thanks for sending me this link. I've got to do a better job of keeping track of everyone.

I'm so happy for your good news! That should certainly make those crocus blooms even more beautiful!

    hugs,
    Lily
