Lilacs are in bloom

In our driveway

It's that time of the year again, when lilacs everywhere in town are in bloom. It only happens once a year, for a very short time, but I watch for the blooms with lots of enjoyment. I've learned that the white ones bloom first and are sometimes gone before the deep purple lilacs have shown their color. Yesterday I saw a very different looking lilac bush than I've seen before: purple blooms edged with white. They had only begun to come out, so I didn't get a picture. It's located on a walk I take only once in awhile, so I might or might not capture the blooms. My attention span is limited these days.

At the moment I'm dealing with a blockage of ear wax in my right ear. I went looking for the earwax removal kit in my bathroom and tried it, with no success. Then I noticed that it might be because the expiration date was way back in 2017. Off to the pharmacy for a new bottle, some of which is now in my tilted ear, with hopes that I'll be able to hear normally again in the near future. If it's not one thing, it's another. A minor annoyance but one I cannot ignore.

How about you? How is the weather in your part of the world? I keep seeing these awful tornadoes in the south and am reminded that spring tends to exacerbate these terrible storms. We are having cloudy but mild weather, nothing serious to report. We do keep having rainstorms, but that is perfectly normal for the Pacific Northwest during the majority of the year.

  1. I adore lilacs and watch for them each and every year.
Most of ours are while. Some day I will add the deep purple and the lilac to our crowded garden.
    Good luck with your ears.

  2. What a beautiful sight and smell...just spectacular !
Yes, tornadoes were dancing all around today, one touched down just across the state line in Kentucky, it's an ongoing worry.
Hope your ear wax problem gets better DJan.

  3. Lilacs won't be in bloom here for another month! And weather is lousy.

  4. Today was beautiful and a bit warm... think we may have hit 90 F. And probably because of that (and other things) we are now in the middle of a tornado warning and severe weather this evening and tonight. My son in Grandbury (northwest of us) already has hail... nickel to golf ball size. I used to like stormy weather (didn't even mind hurricanes when we lived further south), but tornados are a bit nerve-wracking.
And if it's not TMI, what do you use for ear wax? I've never used anything... but maybe it would help my hearing. You can email me if you like.

  6. Wet and cold has been the order of the days here, with occasional sunny days in between. It was sunny today but so cold due to the wind I wore my winter coat out again. At least we walked a section of trail we wanted to revisit.

The lilacs are gorgeous. Enjoy the blooms!

  7. Wow are they pretty. Good luck with the earwax kit. I tried that once when I got water trapped in my ear and I eventually had to go to my primary to get it out. He said all the things I tried softened it up for him.

  8. If you wear hearing aids you will get serious about wax. You keep your ears clean ( I think I remember my Mom saying that. ) and the hearing aids clean, there are hearing aid parts that you can change when there's too much wax.

  9. I have had that ear wax blockage...it is the pits. Hope yours is resolved soon. It will freeze here tonight getting down to 30 and it was only about 42 today and windy! We need rain.

  10. It is hot and sunny here in Honolulu. Thank goodness I have air conditioning. I swear it wasn't this hot when I was a youngster. Our temperatures rarely hit 80's and never 90's, but nowadays, it is commonplace.

  11. Your post reminds me of a beautiful white lilac tree in the first house we ever owned. I will have to keep my eyes open now as I don't recall any local to me. good luck removing that wax. It is horrible not being able to hear clearly. Weather is cold and windy here. I usually play table tennis on an outdoor table today but sadly we might have to cancel as high winds make it impossible.

  12. I wish lilacs would thrive this far south, but nope!
We got flooding rains over the weekend. Now, hot, and oh so very humid.
Good luck with your ear wax build up.

  13. Our lilac bush is in bud, but it definitely not lilac season yet. We are in the midst of a rainy week, and yesterday was darn cool too. I so appreciate those two warm spells that we had in April before this weather hit.

  14. That sure is a pretty photo, I don't know if my grandma had lilacs in her backyard but they sure take me back to there. Oh DJan I hope your ear is okay, a couple years ago when I developed TMJ and my PCP thought it was a sinus infection, sent me to an ENT who diagnosed TMJ--but still he very easily unplugged my head. (Wish there was a nicer way of saying it.) I hope yours is remedied just as quickly. Meanwhile, we're on Day 3 of a tropical rainforest here in Pittsburgh. Nonstop rain but at least it's around 70F and everything is green.

  17. Oh, I do love lilacs and we don't have any on our garden anymore. I just texted ill to bring me some when se comes to brunch Sunday morning. She has a big old bush in her yard.
My latest minor plague is clogged oil ducts in my eyelid. Warm wet compress is the treatment and it seems to be working.

  18. Pretty picture. I love the purple. Ear wax is a nuisance and sometimes has to be extracted by an ear doctor.

  19. I've never seen lilacs edged with white. That sounds so pretty.

My sister-in-law tried Debrox with no success. She went to the ENT and she took out wax the size of a garbanzo bean. Hard to believe. My sister-in-law noticed that the doctor didn't throw it out. We told her she should have asked to keep it so she could take a photo of it. I'll bet the doctor will share it with her colleagues who might not believe the tale.
