Had a great Mother's Day

Lily and me, plus flowers

Lily hosted me, John, and Gene for Mother's Day, and we had a super-wonderful meal, to which we all brought something to share. John brought the biggest part, with his incredibly well seasoned cod, which he cooked right before we sat down to eat. Plus Lily made scalloped potatoes, and we had John's fresh asparagus, and a big salad. Gene and I brought dessert.

Cod, potatoes, asparagus, salad

Once we had enjoyed this treat, we ended the feast with lemon scones with whipped cream and John's homemade rhubarb sauce, and Gene brought wine and bear claws. As you can imagine, after all this we were very full and went our separate ways happy and with a little bit more avoirdupois.

I just watched a really interesting video clip from a 2014 60 Minutes program, which John insisted I watch. I'm going to try to embed it here, but if it doesn't work, you should be able to click on the above link to get to it.

Well, that was a lot of work. Did I get it right? In any event, the video is entitled "Living Into Your Nineties." And John was right:  I did enjoy the interviews with these wonderful seniors. I can only hope...

:-)

  2. The meal looks great, and a generous thing for Lily and John to do.
I'll try to remember to come back and watch the video when i have more time. Life is busy right now.

  3. The key thing here is that you look back and say you had a good mother's day. Your group can be very well organized.

  4. I love meals with lots of variety, although I want to try everything and end up eating way too much. What a wonderful way to celebrate! My dad recently died at 92 1/2 and most of his later years were healthy and happy. Just the last two months were rough.

  5. I like your mother's day. Mine was stressful because I had to clean my very messy house and do most of the work to have guests over. I think I will not do that again, and treat it as my day, not everybody else's day. (Bah, humbug - lol!)

That was an interesting program about 90 year olds. The oldest of the old. I feel privileged to see my 100 year old friend twice a week when we go to ceramics class together and sometimes holoholo (play) at shopping and the beach. She is sharp and has such a positive attitude. She is getting a bit more frail but still walking and creating. She said the secrets to her age are yoga and yogurt. Such a dear - and she will be 101 in 3 weeks!

  9. Good food, great friends, what could be better.
Enjoyed the clip. Those 90 plus folks make this 80 plus gal feel a little inadequate:) Really admire them.

  10. Thanks for persevering and posting the clip. I learned a few things ... and now won't worry if I miss taking my vitamin. Glad you had a good mother's day.

  13. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it. Good to know coffee is OK in moderation... and that vitamins are not that helpful (since I only take Vit.D3). And I know that I need to exercise more... and maybe socialize a bit more too. Glad you had a good Mother's Day!

  14. Dear DJan, thanks so much for taking the time to put the "60 Minute" video in your posting. I learned a lot from it. At 85, I'm aware of my body changing in dramatic ways. I've been a life-long exerciser, but when Meniere's began back in 2006, I had to stop and the truth is that I never really began again. So, now is the time to get serious about adding walking and yoga and Tai Chi Chih into my daily routine. Your exercise program has always inspired me, but while the mind thought, "I"ll do that!" the body simply stayed stationary. Now I'm going to begin again. Thank you. Peace.

  17. I can't believe you ate bear paws! Kidding. I know Mother's Day might be bittersweet for you, remembering those lost too soon. But I'm glad you spent it with treasured friends.
