Looking ahead to better weather soon

Trees in blossom at the bus stop
It was another dreary morning as I walked to the bus. When I first passed these trees before dawn (because of the time change), it was raining. Again. I have to admit that I'm really ready for a change in the weather. Several of my blogging friends who live in the northeast are getting amazingly warm temperatures and emerging from their snowbanks.

But on the way home from my yoga class, the sun had come out, and if you look carefully at these lovely blossoms, you'll see that some of them are illuminated with rays of that big yellow thing in the sky. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures as I walked home.
Forsythia
The pretty yellow forsythia in this front yard caught my eye, and the sun came out just in time to light up the golden petals. They don't last long and are one of our early springtime enjoyments. By this time I was smiling and couldn't help thinking that maybe the weather forecasters are right and we are on our way to a really nice patch without rain for a few days.
Lilac buds
It won't be long now before I'll see the lilacs in bloom. They also come and go quickly, and sometimes I realize they are already past their prime before I get a chance to take any pictures. And last I checked, it's still only mid-March!
A lot of work to get this far
This weekend in between rain storms, I was able to start clearing my garden plot for planting. This small little area that I started clearing made me very glad I don't have more area to plant! I'm about a quarter of the way through, and if I didn't sit on that little green table, I couldn't do this work at all. My back and knees remind me that I'm not a kid anymore. Or that kid's mother, for that matter. But grannies and gardens were made for each other, methinks!
:-)

  2. Well, one good thing about the rainy season is that the area is so green. Beautiful flowers.

  4. We don't have lilacs along the coast....I love 'em. Now you have me a bit green with envy.

I'll trade you a bit of our heat wave for some cooler NW temps!

  6. You are very much ahead of us. We are at my mother's house on the other side of the state. She has daffodils in bloom. I also saw a forsythia in bloom. I love the forsythia bush. I am ready for spring, but it is snowing in the mountains.

  7. I hear you on the work needed in the garden. And am failing. But enjoying the attempt.
Love forsythia. And lilac. I have both but it will be a long time (six months or more) before they flower here. Thanks for the reminder.

  8. Hey, if I had lilacs in bud I be bragging. I do have some plants emerging. My rhubarb is poking out.

  9. You should cover your garden with heavy mulch in the fall, and then you wouldn't have so much grass to dig out in spring.

  10. The Furry Gnome has good advice. Another way to go is to cover your plot with landscape cloth. It allows the rain to get through but keeps growth from taking off. Another tip. Do not let weeds go to seed in the fall.
As you will see from my post, we finally got back outside today. It was wonderful to see the sun.

  12. Here in Texas our Bradford pear trees are in full bloom as well as daffofills and tulips! I've only gotten as far as *thinking* about my hanging baskets, but need to get with it soon. (It was 89 degrees here yesterday!) And it made me smile when you said that you "weren't a kid" anymore. I find that I can still do the work... but have to divy it up. Today I totally cleaned ONE room! There was a time when I could clean the whole house in a day...

  16. So glad you are able to get your hands dirty. I'm getting excited about gardening also. That size patch will give you all you can eat plus you get to share in the other's overages. It's coming Djan, hang in there.

  17. Spring appears to be right around the corner. Isn't it amazing how startlingly bright forsythias are in spring? I had them around one side of the house in Illinois and loved seeing them. I can't wait to see what your garden produces this year.

  18. Nothing in bloom or anywhere near it yet. Snow last night, not much and no buds out yet. I am glad yours are and in a while I shall be doing gardening like yours. Thankyou for the spring prettiness.
