Perennial clematis in bloom |
We drove to the meeting spot, thinking that maybe nobody would come and we could go have coffee. I was amazed to see that twenty women showed up. As we walked, the wind would let up now and then, and the rain as well, but every now and then we got hit with both. Definitely springtime in the Pacific Northwest. By the time we finished our five-mile walk, though, it had pretty much stopped raining.
Afterwards, our leader Cindy had arranged for us to see her new office space and invited us all over for homemade scones and coffee. Although we weren't exactly dry and well coiffed, we headed over to see the place anyway and enjoyed a wonderful gathering in her beautiful office space. Outside, I saw this incredible bush of white fragrant flowers and asked what it is. I didn't realize that there are several varieties of clematis that don't lose their leaves over the winter and come into bloom in the early spring. Very early this year indeed!
And as I sit here I notice that it's getting brighter outside, and I can see some blue sky! Maybe we will enjoy a short respite from all this inclement weather. I'm ready.
:-)
Brave women out in that weather! Enjoy the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such a lush Clematis! You women are walking warriors!
ReplyDeleteYou are indeed brave women still walking in that weather. I admire you all because you were not swayed and got to enjoy your beautiful surroundings. I think I'd have retreated to a cafe, or home again, for warm cuppa instead.
ReplyDeleteLovely Clematis in bloom. :)
What a stunning Clematis, it reminds me of Autumn Clematis, yet blooming in Spring !
ReplyDeleteYou can't keep a good woman down....lol

Twenty women ... I'm impressed. I hope you all have good rain gear!
ReplyDeleteTwenty troopers!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that clematis.
how very nice! i love how welcoming your group(s) are - lots of fellowship (ladyship?) among you.
ReplyDeleteWe drove into the hills this afternoon to visit the goat farm and buy more soap. The wild flowers are blooming and the hills are green. All that rain is paying off. We just need to have the same amount every year for about 5 years and we can be over the drought.
ReplyDeleteWe had the kids today and we did our walking at the mall. I guess the rain did stop, but we had a soccer game to watch and then kid errands to run. Now I don't feel like doing anything. We'll find a movie to watch this evening before we go to bed and "spring forward".
ReplyDeleteSunday is supposed to be wild and windy again. I'm saying enough already!
I have been noticing the evergreen clematis blooming everywhere too. They seem especially lush this year.
You're a die hard participant in your walk. You really put up with some dirty weather.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you keep so healthy. My nurse practitioner just told me I needed to walk more. I'd been slacking and it showed. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteThe clematis looks so pretty!
That is one beautiful Clematis!! Good for you out in the weather walking up a storm! :)
ReplyDeleteI've never heard or seen an evergreen clematis before. I can only imagine the fragrance.
ReplyDeleteTwenty ladies braving the elements...that is phenomenal.
It was nice to have homemade scones and coffee at your friend's office. Great cap to the day.
ReplyDeleteReally impressed that 20 women showed up. I would have probably gone with my first instinct. It helps to have someone nudge us past bowing out like your neighbor.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me that wind and rain don't deter you, Djan. If it's really rainy and windy here, I hardly ever venture out. Guess living in the South has made me soft. But I love it that you walk whatever the weather!
ReplyDeleteAnd those home-made scones and fresh coffee sound wonderful...
You are such a role model! I haven't told anyone else, but I've started going to the Y a couple of days a week and using the recumbent bicycle machines. It's a good complement to my tap dancing and whatever walking I'll do when the weather is good. Or, if I think of you, even when the weather isn't all that good!
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle. I wouldn't doubt all the twenty women were all thinking the same thing on their way to the meeting place--LOL! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, 20 women!! You are hardy souls!
ReplyDeleteTwenty walkers on a cold and wet day. Sounds pretty dedicated to me and the reward at the end even better. Mother Nature is reminding us today how cold she can let us all be.
