It's a brand new year

Frosty trees from our New Years Day walk
I was sitting in my chair, dozing, when I suddenly realized that I hadn't yet written my Saturday post. It's been quite an interesting day, with me saturated from having seen the new Star Wars movie in 3-D, and a little tired from having had two wonderful walks with the ladies, one yesterday for New Years and one today for our usual Saturday walk.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I won't spoil it for anybody other than to say it was just about what I expected, what with all the hype that has been roiling around about it. The old friends I hadn't seen in a long time, Han Solo and Princess Leia, have been busy aging right along with me, and they were good to see again. The new faces were really well done, Rey and Finn, and I look forward to seeing them in the next installment in a couple of years. If you're a Star Wars fan, I don't see how you could  be disappointed. I LOVED the bar scene; that was one of my favorite parts of the original series. Let me know what you thought about the movie, if you don't mind.

Tomorrow is Sunday, the last day of the first weekend of the new year, and I'm feeling glad to be alive and looking forward to 2016 with anticipation and happiness.
:-)

  2. I loved it! Believe it or not, I am a Star Wars virgin of sorts. I'd never seen a Star Wars movie before. Crazy, isn't it? I will have to go a watch all the others now.

    1. Really?! I wasn't sure that was possible... I was wondering what someone who hadn't seen Star Wars would think of these... Not too over the top?

  3. Well, that would give you a jolt when you find you've forgotten something important. I'm not a Star Wars fan.

  4. I have seen the other movies so I know about that bar scene in one of them...and I can see why you liked it. I will wait for it to come out on Netflix. 3D I bet that was a trip:)

  5. Haven't seen the new Star Wars movie yet, DJan, but DH and I plan to see it this week. My kids have all seen it and loved it. DH and I don't go to movies much, but this is one that we would like to see on the big screen.

  6. Hubby saw the Star Wars movie and enjoyed it. Me? I don't like special effects and action movies. Give me a romantic comedy any day.

  7. Me too. That is looking forward to the New Years events. 2015 wasn't that good here with too many visits to emergency rooms and bad diagnosis. 2016's got to be better....:)

  8. Oh, I missed this post yesterday. Yep, saw Star Wars Dec. 31st. Haven't gotten around to posting about it yet, but will soon. I agree with your analysis.

  9. Yes, let's look forward to 2016 and to making it a really great year. It takes each of us, in our way and place, to do that. I know you will be on the trail in 2016!

  10. Happy New Year DJan!!!

I saw Star Wars The Force Awakens on opening night here in Alicante, and the only reason I didn't go to the midnight session on Thursday was because it was playing in Spanish! :p

I need to see it again before I emit judgement (I'm in the middle of re-watching the first 6 before I return to the cinema), because my brain was a little bit to "fried" with the excitement and the identification of "homage" moments to really evaluate the movie for itself.

I did have 2 qualms about it: too many scenes were a homage to the original films (did they have to have another giant spherical planet blowing up machine with the exact same design flaw as before? And the lonely person on the desert planet, and the confrontation on the catwalk and its inevitable conclusion (*sob*) etc. Second: too many threads left dangling for the rest of the trilogy. Fortunately I think this means they can move on past nostalgia now and really develop the cool new characters which I LOVED! Especially Rey. She was amazing!!! Not too impressed by Finn though. And I thought Kylo Ren (*grumble*howdareyou*grumble) was a bit too much like a petulant teenager, didn't scare me like Vader did back in the day...

  12. My days were all mixed up with the holidays, too.
I haven't seen Star Wars but have heard good reviews and Dagan and Leah liked it. I won't see it till it is out on Netflix.
Going to be a marvelous year!! :)

  13. I saw the original back in the 1970s, which I thought was fantastic, and then I saw one of the sequels, which I found disappointing. Haven't seen another one since. But I hear good things about this one, so maybe I should go. We saw "The Big Short" on New Year's Eve. It was good, if you like that sort of thing.

  15. Happy New Year to you DJan!
May 2016 bring you many blessings.

The one and only Star Wars movie I have seen so far has been The Phantom Menace. I watched it way back in 2001 and again this past week. My son recently went to see the latest movie and just HAD to get the boxed set so we are now watching them in sequential order. So far, so good. :)

  17. I did write a blog post about it which should go up tomorrow. I have to agree with everything you said. I had to be careful not to write anything that might be a spoiler though. It does bring the Star Wars franchise back to the original concept. My son-in-law was actually disappointed with it, but we enjoyed it.
