Leo's new passion

Leo and Gene: notice Leo's t-shirt
Leave it to my friends to wear t-shirts that advertise their interests. Leo, it turns out, was going to school yesterday and his dad brought him to the coffee shop before class, to give us all a thrill. He was loaded down with books about snakes, and then Robert (Leo's dad) showed me what Leo was bringing to class for Show and Tell.
Yep, Leo's new pet
I looked at the small burlap sack and wondered what the heck it was, until Robert opened it up so I could see this snake. (Robert was reading the paper and it fortuitously displayed a Mother's Day advertisement.) Wonder what Leo's mom thinks of this latest pet. I wonder who will be feeding him, since I KNOW what they eat! Oh my.

  2. That was my son's passion also. We got used to it. Hope the class (and the teacher) enjoyed his 'show & tell'!

  3. I am so not going to show this post to my smaller portion. He would LOVE to have a pet snake. He was even arguing for a venomous one. An argument he lost.
They can be beautiful, but freak me out. Quite a lot.

  5. Sure hope the teacher had been forewarned about that snake. I would hate to be surprised by that creature in my classroom.

  8. I could never get used to it. Leo has an extraordinary Mother. :(

  9. Kudos to moms who let their kids have snakes as pets. They're nurturing future biologists, future Steve Irwins! Me...no thanks.

  10. Good for Leo and family. Children learn so much from having to care for a pet and snakes don't need a great deal of time on their care or need to be taken for walks. You don't get much back from them though! We had a boa and a python long before we had children and I found them fascinating. We no longer kept reptiles when the children came along so what is even more interesting is that my son has a huge phobia of snakes. Only discovered when he saw them on TV and screamed, refusing to come back in the room. At 30 he is still in fear of them!

  11. Well, Leo surprised me - I just cannot imagine having a pet snake. WE have lots of harmless snakes and sometimes in summer I can get close enough to pick one up off a sunny rock and feel it slide through my fingers. They are kinda cool, but wouldn't want one for a pet. I couldn't keep it caged up - just me of course. I am sure many people love having them as pets? ha,ha Looks like Gene is enjoying this as much as Leo and that's a nice fish on his shirt. I know how he likes to fish, eh. Have a wonderful day.

  12. I had all kinds of pets growing up but not a snake. Yup! Because I knew what they ate. When I worked at pet shops I made the customer pick out the live mouse or rat because I told them I refused to play god. We sold frozen mice and rats, too, and I always wondered how they got them to eat them if they were already dead--thaw them out and wiggle them about maybe. I bet Leo was the hit at show and tell!!

  13. Leo looks delighted. If it weren't for that feeding part, snakes do make great pets. They love to snuggle with warm humans.

  14. Ugh! I do hate those critters with a passion and will stay as far away as possible.

  15. My friend's son had a pet snake and bred mice to feed him. Not my cup of tea but he also was passionate about snakes, so good luck to Leo.

  18. Ha! My son used to be into snakes, but never enough that he wanted one. But we went to the Snake-tacular every year at the local science center and he always wanted to hold one...as long as Daddy held it to. Mom, wisely stayed far away. Leo is so adorable.

  19. My son went thru his snake phase. Had three of them. Every one of them escaped, and were never found again. They're probably still somewhere in the house!

  20. He's a beautiful color, but I'd rather have a pet with fur or feathers ...lol
    Each to their own :}
