Down with a cold

A touch of snow around here
I didn't go to my workout class this morning, since yesterday I couldn't continue to escape the fact that the constant sneezing, sore throat, and general feeling of malaise wasn't just my imagination. I've been busy medicating myself with day- and nighttime OTC stuff (generic Dayquil and Niquil). It's made it possible to stay upright and not park myself in bed.

Today I'm feeling a little bit better, but it wasn't more than a few weeks ago that I got sick with the norovirus, and believe me, everybody around me knows how much I don't like being sick. I'm a terrible patient, but my dear partner has been making me tea and crumpets (Crumpets? What the heck are those anyway?) and I've got a huge 600-page book to read. Unfortunately, it will be gone before the day is over.

My sister introduced me to David Baldacci, who writes the kind of book that, once you get hooked, you cannot put down. Just what I needed for today. I am reading Absolute Power, a 1996 thriller that was made into a Clint Eastwood movie the next year. Maybe that's what I should do once I finish with it: watch the movie. Anyway, I'm on the upside of being down and out. I hate colds, especially when it's cold out.
:-)

  1. These respiratory things are going around. Stay low, take the meds, drink plenty of liquids and you should be back to your old self pretty quickly. Try to do too much, though, and you may find yourself in bed, taking awhile longer to get well.

  2. Oh no! I will tell you that the AlkaSeltzer Day/Night pills work. The last cold I had those were the only things that kept me going. Feel better soon.

  10. Sorry to hear you were sick again, but it sounds like you've got it under control.
It was tricky trying to walk yesterday because of the ice, so today I dusted off the stationary bike out in the garage and did ten miles. By tomorrow I may feel some new muscles I haven't been using.

  12. Quite right to take a few days out to give your body a chance to recover from this nasty cold. Hope you are hiking fit soon.

  13. Oh no--a totally unfair way to start the New Year. You all ready did your time with that virus.
I'm a terrible patient also so I sympathize with SG. Be well really soon so you can go out to play.

  14. You should get the pneumonia vaccine if you have not already done so. The elderly are prone to pneumonia, which can be fatal.

  15. Sorry to hear that you've got a cold. I find that gargling, saline nasal spray, and lots of hot liquids help me... and if you can stand it, eat raw garlic - it's a natural antibiotic - may burn the heck out of your throat, but I think it works. Get well!

  16. I am slightly under the weather the past couple days, too--fighting something off.
Absolute Power sounds so familiar. I think I saw the movie, but my memory isn't what it used to be--LOL!
Hope you are feeling great again soon. :)

  17. Heal quickly DJan. Yes, I have read David's books as well. I am sure your fellow hikers and walkers miss your presence. Take care.
