New photo app

Such a pretty cup of coffee
My local barista made this lovely cup of coffee for me to enjoy. It's almost too pretty to drink, don't you think? I had some difficulty exporting it onto my desktop in a small size to put into the post, because Apple has just done a major upgrade to its Yosemite operating system, including a complete overhaul of its photo program. No more iPhoto. I read everything I could find about the new system before downloading it, but I figured that I'd have to do it sooner or later, so I jumped right in.

Well, when I put a picture from my MacBook Air onto a blog post, I first export it into the lowest resolution possible, since I don't want my pictures to take forever to load in full size, which looks exactly the same on the screen anyway. And of course, with the new program, my old way of doing things just wasn't there. I did finally find out how to export my image in a smaller size, but just for grins, I went to Google to see if there were better ways to do it. I found that the Preview app is even a better way to resize photos. I found that information on this How-To Geek website.

Just because I had to step out of my comfort zone, I might have found a better way to get just the right size pictures for my posts. My camera and phone both take photos in a size way too large to post directly. This one went from 1.4MB to 66KB, which is just fine. Anyway, I'm happy with the new program, now that I'm able to do pretty much everything I need.

  1. hooray for learning new stuff! just when we get accustomed to the old, they always change it for us. :) and i agree - i'd have a hard time disturbing that cup. :)

  2. I now understand why you need such a terrific looking cup of coffee. I wish they would stop upgrading programmes as nothing seems to work once it happens.

  3. I am not seeing your photo at all. Maybe it is just me, I will come back later:)

  5. All these improvements do my head in. And apps do it in even further. Learning all the time (sometimes kicking and screaming).

  6. I'm happy that you figured out the new app, or your way around it :)
I'm technically challenged, so it's all over my head...lol

  7. It doesn't hurt to push oneself on a complicated problem. I know nothing about picture sizes and how to change them. One of these days I'm going to have to quit playing and learn something.

  8. I use Windows, not Apple, so with google chrome, I just select photos from my files, download them to the blog, and then select the photo size to publish. So I guess i don't really know what you are talking about. But I do know that is a good looking cup of coffee!

  9. I guess I never thought of that. I usually adjust them in IPhoto, export to my desktop, and then load onto my blog. I use Yosemite, but still have IPhoto. Hmmm. Perhaps I don't know what I'm doing.

  11. Hi DJan! I've never commented before but I always enjoy your posts! You were my lifeline to Bellingham before we moved back here :) Most blogging software (like Wordpress) allows you to pre-set the size of the photos you upload so that it is changed accordingly upon upload. But then I realized you are on blogger and I don't know enough about that platform. There really should be an easier way for you to upload photos without having to resize each of them first. Needless to say, the photos are always lovely!

  12. I really don't understand any of what you said, but I am happy for you--ROFL! Your pics always look great to me. I have no idea if my pics take a long time to load or not. They don't when I open up my blog, but then it's on my McLap. All too confusing for me--LOL! Have a great week. :)

  13. HowToGeek is a wonderful website - I have used it myself on odd occasions. Trust me, DJan, I have had to move out of my comfort zones more than once too, but someone told me once that you learn it all today, only to find out it all changed by tomorrow (World of Technology), so I am one of the constant learners. Thank you for the lovely photo - its a beauty and I might just stare at that, thinking it was too pretty to drink too; until the aroma hit my nostrils. ha,ha
    Have a wonderful day.

  14. Hmmmmm, my phone [and camera too] have pixel size options.

Too bad you have to go through all this to get a smaller image to post on the blog.

Yes, that coffee is very cool.

  15. I agree that most of today's technology is beyond me, but with my iPhone pics, I just send them to my computer via email (they do ask what size and I always pick medium) and then from there to be picked up by blogger as needed. There might be a simpler way, but I don't know it. It works fine this way. I do occasionally have to change to jpg, and I use the Paint program to do this. But I may check out *How to Geek*. Thanks.

  16. Kudos for stepping out of your comfort zone. Well done. Pretty sure I wouldn't have managed to figure it out. And no, pretty sure I'd just look at it and not break up the art work. Too pretty to drink.

  17. The photo looks nice. I downsize my photos on Adobe Photoshop first and then add them to my blog via WordPress. I have a PC.

  18. Even though most of us don't like change, I believe system changes are good for us as they do make us step out of our comfort zone and quite often achieve new and better ways of doing things.

  21. Whenever I lower the resolution too much on photos of outdoor scenery it gets super grainy. I keep experimenting to try to keep my photos between 100-200 KB. If it's not scenery, I keep it to about 100 KB. It's hard though. I've never used iPhoto and we have the new MacBook Air which I haven't played with much. I'll have to check it out.

  22. I still haven"t done the change because my macbook pro is 4 years old now and I've read that some folks loose stuff. I am too insecure yet.

I really appreciate your comments! If you see a word verification box here, just ignore it. I don't use the darn thing and Blogger is trying to get us to use it, I guess. Ignore it and your comment will still appear.
