Tree growing out of a log on Lake Whatcom |
Coming out of the parking lot of a rather large shopping center, I tried to turn left into pretty heavy traffic and thought I was clear when BAM! I collided with another car. We both stopped to take an assessment of the damage and fortunately a policeman was going by and stopped to write up an incident report. We both have coverage and I've already reported it to my insurance company. My car has bumper damage but is still drivable, but the young woman could not open her driver's side door so she had it towed. I've since learned that auto body shops are not open on the weekend, but first thing Monday I'll get my car appraised and schedule it to be fixed.
I've been driving for many decades, and this is my first accident. Unfortunately for me, I pulled out into traffic and will probably be issued a ticket (also my first!). Everyone is all right, although the young lady (exactly fifty years younger than me) was as shaken up as I was. I drove my car home carefully, but after a look under the hood I realize that I can drive it around safely as long as I don't get going too fast.

Awww.... So sorry to read about your accident but sooo happy to hear that you are ok. It's a terrible feeling, isn't it? Big hugs!
ReplyDeletei'm really sorry! but glad no one (besides the vehicles) was hurt! darn it, though!
ReplyDeleteas for the opening scene, how beautiful!
Aaargh. I am so sorry that you had an accident - and so very happy that the damage was only to the cars.
ReplyDeleteLove your photo at Lake Whatcom though - healing magic.
yikes. i am glad you are ok and that she is ok, just shaken...
ReplyDeletei have been in a few, only 1 my fault..not much fun
I hope walking it off helped. It's pretty amazing that this is your first and only accident and ticket! And only a bumper buster. So glad it wasn't more.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you had an accident. They can really shake you up. A good walk will help to settle you down. Those firsts really knock your pride down.
ReplyDeleteYou're very lucky if that's your most serious accident ever! Like measuring twice and cutting once, I now tell myself to look three times before pulling out once.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are okay. The car can be fixed. I hope you are not sore...did the air bag go off? We try to avoid left hand turns all the time, most of your accidents happen then. We HAVE to make a left turn on our way to town..I look about three times before going...one day I missed seeing a vehicle there...good thing my passenger saw it ...I apparently looked past it. I am super glad you are okay:)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad everyone was okay. If this was your first ever car accident, I'd say you're doing very well.
ReplyDeleteYou must be shaken up- I'm so sorry! If you read my blog from yesterday which features you it might lift your spirits. Do something extra comforting for yourself.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are OK and person involved and sorry to hear about your fender bender. Everyone frowns on seniors and car accidents unfortunately. And, Yes, a hike was the best release. That is a stunning shot with the beauty of the tree growing out of the log and I am imagining canoeing on that still water.....ahhhhh.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. Glad it wasn't worse.
ReplyDeleteAt least, you did not get cited for DUI, which happened to my daughter. Very expensive lesson for her.
Glad no one was hurt! Some insurance companies forgive the first accident....
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your accident but am grateful no one was hurt. You are so right, it only takes one quick instant for things to change-- followed by a strong urge for a do over.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your accident. It does rattle one when such a thing happens, but my, you have been fortunate to not have had any earlier accidents. I have had a few fender benders along the way as well as three tickets during my driving history.
ReplyDeleteMy last accident only involved my car, for which I was so thankful, because it could have been very bad had other cars or people had been in the parking lot. I hope your insurance is good as mine. They handled the whole process, even taking care of getting the damaged property fixed.
Hope you can get your car quickly fixed so you aren't constantly reminded of such a terrible day.
I am very sorry about your car accident. It could be the jet leg ~ 10 hours?
ReplyDeleteMy last car accident(12 years ago) happened after a trip (12 hours jet lag). My husband ran thru a stop light at 40 mph, he didn't even know it a few days later.
I agree with Zody, my car insurance handled the whole process, even taking care of getting the damaged property fixed.
Thanks everyone for the suggestion about avoiding left turns!
Glad you're not hurt ... that's the important thing. Yes, we are so familiar with our cars that we do sometimes forget how dangerous these vehicles can be. Walking is much safer!
ReplyDeleteOh dear... I'm so sorry DJan. Believe me when I say I know how you feel. I've been in two accidents and it really shakes you up. Left turns are the worst!
