Front porch flowers 2020

Rainy morning
I woke to the sound of rain on the roof, and once I got out of bed and went to the front porch to do my morning exercises (these are the Five Tibetan Rites I've done for years now), I delighted in the look of my flowers. In past years, I've had many more pots filled with flowers, but for some reason during this lockdown, I've struggled to get enthusiastic about anything at all. I have a couple of walks every week, and usually a longer one on Thursdays, but I miss the gym, my friends, and my routine. Oh, and I have two Zoom yoga classes a week.

For the past few days, I've also been struggling with sciatic pain in my lower back. Yesterday I couldn't even do one of my usual exercises, but today the pain is much, much better. In normal times, I would visit the chiropractor. Or the acupuncturist. I'm hoping that soon we will be able to support our favorite practitioners. But for now, I'm happy that my back is getting better all on its own. It's not like this is my first rodeo: it happens occasionally because I move in some way to irritate that nerve.

I found this on the New Yorker, and I just have to share it with my friends. It makes me laugh, and believe it or not, I really do keep dreaming about doing things I wouldn't ever do these days if I were awake.

  1. Your flowers are gorgeous. What a beautiful place to do your exercises or to just sit and breathe. My plan for the week is to get to Ace Hardware and buy pots of flowers for the backyard. I have one place that is quite bare, and I know flowers won't grow in the ground there, but pots of flowers will do nicely.

  2. Love the flowers. Rain bejewels them beautifully.
I do hope your pain eases quickly.
Please take care of your much loved self.

  3. I haven't had that sort of dream, but I keep trying to warn people not to get too close in the books I'm reading.
I was just admiring some of my flowers from my windows, including on the front porch. The light during this light rain we are having makes everything glow.
Your flowers are looking quite happy.

  4. Lovely sight to greet you. I often dream I can go walking holding hands with people I care about. The rest of my dreams are too bizarre.

  5. The cartoon is perfect. I feel this way too though we do see the grandkids now.

  6. It's a good thing we don't see the kids or grandkids as it would be hard not to hug them...

  7. Ouch. So sorry you can't visit your regular practitioners who could put you right quickly. Hope you are much better soon. You make me wish I had put in some flowers this year but I didn't. Sigh.
My dreams are so normal which is a blessing. Hugs, high fives and close with no masks. I even dreamed I had lunch with Sonny and Cher last night. I know, weird but it was fun. They were pretty cool:)

  10. I'm not much of a hugger, until the government tells us not to...then, these days, I want to defy the rules.

    Lovely flowers D J

  12. Backs are nothing but a problem. In addition to my chronic problem which I manage pretty well, I occasionally get a debilitating spasm.

  13. I think one of the worst things about stay-at-home is that we all have to "struggle to get enthusiastic about anything at all."

  14. Love that cartoon! Your flowers are beautiful. This isolation is difficult for most of us, I think. Even though Florida is open, it really isn't.People see the stats, more than 51,000 cases, and stay at home.

  15. Thank you for introducing me to your morning exercise routine - Five Tibetan Rites. I checked it out and did a really adapted lazy version but think I shall begin to incorporate it correctly into the rest of my life. I used to take TaiChi classes but had difficulty remembering the next steps and/or the proper way to move. I will still continue taking lessons when they resume but I like this set of 5, though the table one is too difficult for me.

Actually, years, years ago, I came across a book about the sacred secret life changing exercises and I remember the table exercise from it. I was young and in great health so I didn't practice it and put the book away. I met a health guru and mentioned the book. He became very excited and asked to see it, so I gave it to him. What goes around comes around, doesn't it?

Again, thank you for introducing me to these exercises!

  16. I’ve actually had dreams about the virus too. I’m glad your back is getting better. That was worrisome. I’m always worried these days that we’d have to go to the hospital for something.

  17. Hope your pain is fleeting. Things might not be normal soon, but better. I've made 3 masks. More in development. Plus, I've finished my 2nd novel! Luckily, my favorite things happen outside. So I can still do those.
