Tuesday again already

Gene and John at Avellino's
I smile when I see these guys hanging out at the coffee shop as I arrive for my regular morning latte. Once I opened up my own iPad, I decided to capture this picture for my post, and then I logged in so that I could join them in digital community. They are both reading Facebook and will stop to share either a cartoon or a video that we might not be seeing at the moment. What a world we live in today: we really did talk to each other once upon a time.
This year's giant pumpkin
And over at the Community Co-op this morning, I saw that they have put out the annual giant pumpkin for patrons to guess its weight. I remember vaguely seeing the weight of last year's giant pumpkin, but now I've forgotten. Maybe it was somewhere in the 300 to 400-pound range. I'm not sure. Anyway, this is a big one, don't you think?

Now that I've gotten my morning exercise routine out of the way, and once this post is written, I don't have anything else on my calendar for the day. Tomorrow is a really full schedule, and then Thursday is the hike. I'm not sure where we'll go, since it's forecast to be another damp one, and we're probably not going into the wilderness area. You never can tell, though; maybe the forecast will change in two days.

  1. Such a typical scene for today and we complain about the young people! Lol! Have a great day!

  2. That is indeed a very big pumpkin - sometimes I feel like that.
    Have a wonderful day.

  3. The internet can bring us closer together but I am saddened that so few people speak to one another. On the train into London today every person was looking at their phone or iPad. No-one exchanged words with anyone else.

  4. Sometimes an empty calendar day is the best!

  5. Good to see John and Gene again! They are busy guys! I notice more and more that people are glancing at their phones, I don't get it...but I don't have a phone either. Sometimes in a group Far Guy and I are the only ones not looking down.
Funny thing is I never feel left out.
I hope your weather is good on Thursday! :)

  6. A day of nothingness for you dear one? Wait...let me sit down. I have to be sure I am reading this correctly!!!

I'd love to carve that pumpkin.

  7. I can talk up a storm face to face or online. Today I grocery shopped and talked not only to the check out clerks but met a friend at one store and we stood and talked (and blocked the aisle) for quite awhile. Even the cashier at the car wash talked with me for a long time. We discussed hair color, hair cuts, and the cost of said services.

I'm hoping for no rain here as the grandkids are coming and will want to play outdoors.

  9. And we talk about the younger generation being wrapped up in their gadgets.....lol.
That is one large pumpkin, I wonder how they move those heavy pumpkins around ? Not easily I imagine.

  10. I'm surprised to see older people on the internet. I'm also surprised when I see 2 year olds navigating the system.

  11. We used to laugh about being as addicted to our phones as young people are. Now even that is not a novelty.
Public transportation is definitely phone time.

  12. Yes, DJan, we do live in different times. Grasp it and run, eh. You flow or you don't. I prefer to flow, but do enjoy a good chat with my friend at our own little Cafe on the Blvd. When my Great Nephew comes to visit, we chat, play and then I teach him a newer and more challenging game on OUR ipads. I should have had such a gift when I was his age. He gets quite excited when he calls and asks me if I have any new games for him yet. I know time will change this, but for now I am teaching him. You will see a photo of us in my next post. I love your pumpkin, my brother used to grow contest pumpkins, until one year someone actually came into his garden and cut the vine??? Sad but true. Have a great hike tomorrow, an adventure or two, climb and sing a tune or two. Cheers.

  13. iPhone, ipads, etc. are everywhere. I sometimes wonder if in a few years, we'll all be walking cyborgs... with our phone plugged into our ears, glasses, or whatever.
Facebook is the only social network I use (and not often), but I recently unfollowed (not unfriended - just stopped their posts for the time being) quite a few people as they were posting and re-posting too much election mean-ness. Tired of it.
Hope you have good weather for your hike Thursday!

  14. That photo of the 2 men is so funny. Yes, there was a time when you could actually have a real chat.

  15. Just a bit sad to see us seniors resorting to electronic gadgets like the kids do. Wonder if someday our voice boxes will atrophy and just become useless like our appendix. Pretty sure we will have muscular thumbs by then though:))

  19. That is a huge pumpkin and the coloring is interesting too. You have a new iPad, right? Is it a whole lot better than the older one?
