Rainy Saturday

Lynn's crocus beginning to emerge
I woke last night to the sound of immense rainstorms pounding on our roof. I learned we had more than a half-inch total rainfall yesterday, but most of the day was sunny, meaning it really did pour last night. It was pretty amazing to hear it. We usually get light but persistent rain, nothing like last night's deluge.

Two things of importance have happened so far today: I just got home from seeing Michael Moore's new movie, called Where To Invade Next?. I've seen most of his movies, and I have to say that this one is probably one of the most hopeful and moving that I've seen. He's older now and has learned from his past mistakes. I would recommend anybody to see it, no matter what your political stripe.

And just a few minutes ago, I see that Antonin Scalia has died. This is a huge event in our country's history. He was a staunch conservative, but a good friend of someone I really admire: Ruth Bader Ginsberg. He had a wicked sense of humor, according to his admirers. The pundits are now arguing whether or not Obama will have a chance to appoint a successor. A day I won't forget any time soon.

  5. Warm enough to rain...I enjoy hearing that!
Yes I heard that Scalia died. That whole Court is in danger of that what is their average age anyway. I think the new Justice should be Lutheran:)

  6. We were away all day at a family event. I saw the news about Scalia on Facebook on the way home. The Republicans immediately jumped on this stating that President Obama should not appoint a successor. We will now have another mess on our hands.
I saw the trailer for Moore's movie. I have not seen any of his movies, but this did look interesting.

  8. What pretty crocuses.
We are getting quite a bit of news from the American election progress. It seems to be getting very lively over there!

  9. Happy first Crocus. At least, you were not up a mountain when this storm struck. I love the sound of pounding rain on the roof. Puts me right to sleep. Michael Moore ++

    The purple crocus is beautiful.

  11. Storms like that are best heard on your roof at night. Great for sleeping and don't interfere with plans.
I was so surprised to hear that Scalia and Ginsberg were such good friends. Love it when people who disagree can see past differences and can appreciate the value of the other.

  13. You keep us up on all the movies. Thanks!

It was a shock to hear about the passing of Scalia. He truly was a gifted, funny, complex, cultured, intelligent man.

  14. Don't know much about Scalia. But apparently he was a man of conviction who could get along, even become friends, with people who disagreed with him. We should all take a lesson from the Scalia-Ginsberg example.

  16. blessings...
    love the rain.
never heard of that movie (something to look for)
A man died and they take no time to honor him/his contribution instead they snap like the hounds of hell and take pop shots at the current president.

  17. I love it that Scalia and Ginsberg were such good friends. I certainly hope President Obama will be able to nominate a supreme court justice and that it will be approved. I'm glad to hear the movie was so hopeful!
