More signs of an early spring

Flowering plum trees in Fairhaven
Last year we had a very early spring, so much so that by the end of April all the tulips at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (held the entire month of April) were all gone. We may have the same situation this year, but it's only the middle of February and anything can happen between now and then.

This morning when I woke thinking about the ladies' walking group, it was raining heavily. I don't mean just a light mist, but rain pounding on the roof. Oh well, I thought, get ready with all my rain gear and head out anyway. By the time I got going, it had pretty much stopped raining, but it was cold and windy. And then... an hour and a half later when we returned to the starting point, it was getting sunny! It doesn't take much to make me happy when the sun comes out like that.
Lynn's crocus coming right along
You know you will be seeing a picture of these pretty crocuses (croci?) in full bloom once the sun finally hits them. We've got some great weather coming in a few days, with nary a raindrop to be seen by midweek. Until then, I'm going to have a chance to use my raincoat after all.

  1. You are being really, really luck synchronising your treks/walks with the weather at the moment. Which is lovely.
On the other side of the world I am weeding. And discovering that my spring bulbs are already shooting!!!! Before Autumn has started.

  2. We had a fierce storm here a couple of nights ago. Blew palm fronds and palm berries all over our driveway. The berries were flying so fiercely and pelting the garage door. All of my daffodils were bowed down the next morning. By this afternoon, though, they are all standing straight and tall. None of my bulb flowers are ever still around in April.

  3. I am really looking forward to the sunny week ahead. We just have to put up with some Sunday rain first.
BTW, we woke to absolutely clear sky here. It just took a little longer to reach you.

  7. And way up here, we are experiencing another wild change in weather. Warm winds from the south, and we just had snow, rain, freezing temps, lots more snow, lots more rain and hurricane winds and torrential downpours. This morning sun is blazing hot and I am off to enjoy it. Enjoy your walk - no flowers here yet :)

  8. I just wrote a comment on a UK blog about how amazing it is to see the seasonal differences, even though we're well south of you. We won't have anything like that here til late April (at least in a normal year). Still winter here, although a crummy one!

  10. Those are such pretty flowers. Hawaii is supposed to have a drought right now, but it's been raining quite frequently in my area.

  13. Blossom on the trees before the crocuses are all in flower. Doesn't seem right.

  17. Raining here also, but unlike you, I am hibernating. I do need to hit the grocery store though, so I may have to don the raincoat after all. Have a super day and can't wait to see the pretty bloom. Spring! I am so excited!

  18. We were having lunch with my cousin today and telling him about our trip to the NW and Canada last year. THANK GOODNESS you and Linda told us to come earlier or we would have missed all those glorious spring blooms! Thank you so much for making our trip truly memorable. Mom still tells people that was one of her favorite trips.
