September song

August 25 ---> September 14
That tree I see from my seat on the bus is continuing to grow more brilliant, as you can see from the above comparison. Still no leaves have begun to fall, while other trees have plenty of leaves already on the ground. When I ride by the tree, I've taken quite a few unsuccessful pictures from the moving bus, but yesterday I was finally happy with this one. They are not taken from exactly the same angle, but almost. Close enough for you to see the change in just a few short weeks.
Broccoli and kale leaves, grapes, lettuce, tomatoes
And the last gasp of my garden, shown here. The grapes are from my neighbor's arbor; I went over to their house and asked if I could pick a few of the grapes from their incredible bounty. They were very happy to oblige, as they aren't going to be using them for anything special (like wine), and we have both enjoyed them very much. "Just help yourself, you don't have to ask." Wow!

So this is my September song, halfway through the month. It's filled with lots of happy memories from the summer gone by, and the cool temperatures and cloudy skies are way more comfortable for me. Just my cup of tea!
:-)

  1. Your veggies and grapes look really good. September weather here is hot or cold...it cannot make up it's mind. Today is hot and humid and windy:(

  2. That IS a big change in just a few short weeks! Here it's still pretty warm and no changes in the trees but I know it's coming. Enjoy those veggies while they last.

  5. To see the last bounties from your garden and the beautiful leaves as they change fills my heart with happiness.
    You have kind neighbors....

  6. It's a little sad when the end of gardening season comes. The plants are just existing and are not active. You had a good crop. There is a danger of frost here tonight so I picked most of my tomatoes.

  7. That's a very colorful tree. I guess the leaves will fall soon enough.
Love your produce, and what a nice neighbor!

  8. I love that comparison photo DJan! I always loved the changing colors of each season. There were times we'd leave for Hawaii from Illinois for a month in July to August or in late August and were always amazed to see the difference in colors all around.

  9. And grapes? You got grapes? That is too awesome! Grapes on vines here are sour.

  11. I guess our blogs today share a common theme. Fall is arriving.
While September makes you sing, it always makes me a little melancholy. Once I accept that summer is gone, I can begin to enjoy the beauty of Autumn.

  12. I like to compare colours too. Yours has really changed and ours are just beginning. I love walking up one of our main streets (Union St) from the bottom to the top, as it is lined with lots of maple trees and in the fall when the colours are changing, it is just so beautiful. I have just taken the last of the tomatoes out of my garden and still have beets, onions and potatoes to gather next week. The pumpkins (3) which grew quite nice, will be carved for Halloween. I love this time of year. Have a wonderful day.

  13. Your leaves have turned more than ours -- and so have your tomatoes. I still have a dozen green tomatoes in my little tomato patch by the side of the house. Dunno if I'll ever get to eat them.

  14. It's supposed to cool back down again by tomorrow. I'll be glad to have the windows open again.
So nice of your grape neighbors to be so generous! End of the harvest. Now you'll have the winter to plan you next garden in the spring. :)

  15. Wow, free rein at the grape arbor. Lucky you and all you had to do was ask. Great neighbors.
Always kind of sad when the harvest is over. However, here we grow kale thru the fall and winter. They love the cold. I have actually brushed snow off the kale plants in winter for tasty meal.
