Person practicing yoga at Lake Padden |
As I was walking, I saw this person practicing yoga, and it gave me the idea to check out what kinds of classes are offered here in Bellingham. I did attend the Bikram Yoga class here, but it's not for me at this time. I did practice it for seven years in Boulder, but it has lost its appeal. (That's the hot yoga style.) It's hard to go back to where I was, plus I'm interested in a more gentle experience. I see that there are classes in Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa, just to name a few. Wow! I guess I'd best find out what the differences are, and figure which one might be right for me.
Do you know anything about yoga? I'm on a quest to find out more. I'm really interested in seeing whether it's the next best direction for me. What do you think?
:-)
I haven't returned to yoga since my back surgery....my Dr. recommends walking. But I found it was great for balance and stretching. What a great picture of the yogy out on the pier. My daughter does "hot" yoga...in a very warm room.
ReplyDeleteI am too ignorant to be of any assistance. Hot yoga? The mere idea makes me shudder.
ReplyDeleteI am confident that you will find what is right for you - when the time is right.
I don't practice it, but I understand from those that do that it is a wonderful exercise. And something I can easily see you enjoying.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about yoga but I'm about to learn when you post more on yoga.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about yoga. Last winter we attended Tai Chi classes at the local senior center...it helps with core strength:)
ReplyDeleteMy spouse was going thru treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on a daily bases and I participated in a Yoga class there to help pass the time. I found it very relaxing physically and mentally and well worth the effort...
ReplyDeleteWell, i don't know anything about yoga, but i'm now in the cardiac rehab program here, which focuses oncardio. I'm really enjoying it and fewling better already.
ReplyDeleteI go to a yoga class every Saturday at my gym. I know it's not the hot yoga, but don't know exactly what type it is. I do like it. It keeps me more limber.
ReplyDeleteI never understood the appeal of Bikram yoga; the heat factor was a big deterrent for me. Vinyasa flow is good. But the thing with yoga is finding the right teacher. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is into yoga. She left her yoga mat behind. When she is in Hawaii, she follows a yoga DVD and practices that way. Maybe you and your hubby could do the same in your home.
ReplyDeleteYoga never caught on with me. I wish I would take time to meditate though. I hope you find something awesome to fill the sky gap. That sounds like a bond movie!
ReplyDeleteI've never done yoga and know nothing about the types, so I am useless. But a gentle form of yoga does sound like something you would enjoy. Let us know what you find out. :)
ReplyDeleteI know nothing of yoga....but knowing you, I know that you will find something that is appropriate and enjoyable for you.
ReplyDeleteMay your week be a wonderful one, Jan.

It has been years since I have practiced yoga but the thing I loved about it was the increase in flexibility and energy. Some exercise classes tire you, this one did the opposite. There are different levels--find one that suits you. I went for the kinder gentler version. Wish there were local classes here.
ReplyDeletei've always wanted to try it but living out in the boonies, there's not much available without a good drive. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to yoga, I have absolutely no idea. It is not something I have ever experienced.
ReplyDeleteI'm always inspired to go for a walk after reading your posts. It sounds like you have such a fun time with your group. I recently picked up a yoga cd to help me regain some balance and flexibility after a lower back problem. There are some yoga workouts on YouTube and our local Library has cd's to check out. That might help you decide what type of yoga you want to try since you're heading in a "new direction." Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWalking around that lake must give you similar mental well being to yoga. What about pilates?
ReplyDeleteI love yoga, though I've gotten away from it lately. I took Vini-something yoga, a gentle approach with lots of adaptation for individual needs. I also like Pilates, though I'm self-taught.
ReplyDeleteI guess I always assumed skydiving was more of a pleasurable, exciting, and social endeavor, and not so much exercise. More like a crazy-fun hobby. Will yoga really replace that? Seems like you get tons of exercise already.
