Not quite recovered

Bellingham Bay through the evergreens
I live in a beautiful part of the country. Even in the wintertime, it's green, with lots of views and places to hike... if you aren't allergic to rain, that is. Tomorrow I'm going to head out with my favorite Senior Trailblazers to hike to Lost Lake, with an 80% chance of rain. I'm looking forward to it, but I realized yesterday that last week's illness took a lot out of me.

My usual Tuesday routine is to take two classes back to back, a step class that always gets my sweat pouring, and then a strength-and-tone class, lifting weights and performing lots of floor exercises. I was struggling while using my usual weights and found that I had to lower the intensity of the step routine as well. I just didn't have it, so I'm a little anxious about tomorrow's ten-mile hike with lots of elevation gain. It should be okay, but I won't know for sure until then. I may be bringing up the rear instead of charging ahead with the leaders. This particular hike is also muddy, and we've had quite a bit of rain lately, so I'll be prepared.

Last night I realized that I hadn't written a post on here since Saturday. I usually try to post three a week, and tomorrow I'll be posting pictures of our Thursday adventure. It bothers me when I forget, although I don't think anybody else is losing any sleep over it. Some bloggers write a post every single day; there's no way I could do that, what would I write about? Other bloggers have no particular schedule and just write when they are moved to do so.  I wish I could be so cavalier, but it's not in my nature.

Here's a picture of Lost Lake taken in January 2011. As you can see, we have beautiful green scenery all year round. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? The one thing I'm not expecting is sunshine!
:-)

  2. ...and you lift weights too!!! Dang...wish I had your stamina. Then, I could probably beat Bud at arm wrestling. Of course, I would then know I could, but with his ego, I'd have to let him win. ;o)

That misty lake image is astounding DJan. Hope you're up to the hike, and don't tire yourself out too much. [I doubt it] ---and looking forward to more photos.

  4. Pace yourself, drink lots and listen to your body. Not much else you can do. Besides my running, I've started TRX training for strength and toning. Have you heard of it? I think I'll write a blog about it and see if others use it. I like it so far and takes care of the upper body missed by running. Take care, DJan.

  6. ten miles..maybe you should just make a shorter hike this week..like five miles. You may have had that "new flu" they say that it really hits the elderly and young hard and takes a bit to recover from:)

  7. Don't over do, my friend.
I am hoping that you find yourself gaining more strength and stamina every day...and I know that you will. It just takes time after you've had the flu. Take care of you.
    Enjoy your beautiful surroundings!
    Hugs,
    J.

  10. Take it easy D-Jan. Life is not all about stretching yourself... sometimes it's about curling up under a blanket and doing nothing!

  11. Sometimes, getting sick is our bodies' way of telling us that we need to slow down a tad. Keep that in mind tomorrow and try not to overdo. Listen to your body. It hasn't failed you thus far. Gorgeous pics, DJan.

  12. OH, I love that picture of the Lost Lake! So sorry you've been sick, DJan....I so enjoy your posts when I get a chance to pop over and visit. I just finished two back-to-back monthly blogging challenges. I managed it but, boy oh boy, I was relieved when the 61 days was over. I like to blog up to three times a week. I'm going to read back over the past few posts I may have missed.

I hope you enjoy/ed your hike to the Lost Lake. xx

  13. Don't push it tomorrow; your body needs time to heal - as frustrating as that can be.

I'd like to post regularly, but life has been so chaotic that I just haven't had the time or the inclination. Hopefully, things will begin to fall into a more normal routine and then I can fall into a pattern again.

  14. I heard yesterday from a TV doctor that seniors should take a walk outside EVERY DAY, no matter what the weather. I will have to consider that. Tomorrow will be a test of whether or not I do. But I will be thinking of you slogging up mountain trails, just because you actually WANT to!

  15. Hey, it's the big birthday that's got you! Turn 70 and you turn into a pumpkin!!!

  16. Be kind to yourself. You are important to so many of us, and we don't want to think of you sliding down a slippery mountain. Lost Lake is such a romantic name, and this photo from January of last year is certainly that. Hopefully you will be able to post updated pictures for us - with you grinning from the lead again.

  17. Those are beautiful photos of the bay. I especially like the one framed by the evergreens. I wish I could take a leaf out of your book DJan. Since returning from my trip I have not settled into any kind of routine(my gym membership has lapsed)and I seem to be drifting from day to day.I think I was more exhausted than I realised and my body has demanded a bit of a rest. But I need to get back into my stride. Take care to listen to your body. In the great scheme of things a few days rest now will give you the energy needed for your wonderful hikes.

  18. What an awesome picture!!!!! I for one can tell you that you need to listen to your body. It's hard when we are so active to slow down but sometimes it is what it is. Take care!

  19. Beautiful photo of Bellingham Bay and I love the lake photo - mysterious comes to mind when I thing and see Fog.
In regard to your hike....I guess today, I hope you second-thought that one out. Do not push the body to such an extreme hike, if you are still healing. Take heed of the hints from your workout. Take care

  21. That photo is kind of spooky! I hope it looked as pretty today when you did it!
And I hope you didn't overdo it! Hiking when you're not 100% isn't easy!

I'm one of those who posts randomly every so often. When the fancy hits me... as long as at that moment I have the time to do it! Which sadly hasn't come together all that much lately! :o(

  23. Dear DJan, the mist over Lost Lake provides mystery to the questions, "Who lost it? And when? And how? And who found it again?" Peace.

  24. Gorgeous photos! I was going to post less, but some friends here said they read my blog as a morning routine. It is a challenge to write everyday. I don't know how long I can keep this up though.
