I had the choice of a shrimp cocktail or another appetizer (I chose the cocktail), three different salads (the bleu cheese salad was delicious), several entrees (rainbow trout was my choice), and that luscious dessert or ice cream (how could I pass up such an elegant dessert for pedestrian ice cream?). It was a wonderful meal and I enjoyed myself immensely. Today, however, I am feeling just the tiniest bit of guilt for my overindulgence. I'm remembering the good time we had instead.
I guess I've milked this special birthday for all I can, and now it's time to settle in to becoming an exuberant septuagenarian. The years go by so quickly these days that it won't be very long before I'm looking back at the decade and wondering where it went! What wonders lie around the next corners of time? Hopefully I'll find out...
:-)
as if the gorgeous couple wasn't enough, the photo's backdrop is just perfect, too! :)
ReplyDeletei'm glad you splurged. for goodness sake, you'll wear it all off by the weekend. ;)
Great photo. For some reason it set me to thinking about an old TV show called The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. What a handsome couple you make. Happy, Happy one.
ReplyDeleteEverything you chose would have been MY choice too. What a sweet, loving photo DJan!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with TexWisGirl ---indulgence only happens on good days...enjoy the time and think about what lies ahead for next year celebration; not worrying about it all at the time.
A great meal is perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo!
ReplyDeleteIdeal setting for a lovely couple.
Continued smiles to you both!!
Love,
Jackie
Happy belated birthday! I love the view out the window...boats! I am craving a visit to the ocean lately. It is such a treat to have such a special birthday meal. You deserve it, certainly!
ReplyDeleteWell doe he love you or what! Lovely photo..such a pretty place to dine..and the food sounds good too:)
ReplyDeleteoh my...way to rub it in describing the meal like that...smiles....i cant wait for dinner now...sounds like fun times on the tail end of the birthday
ReplyDeleteWonderful meal choices, attentive service, lovely view, good company, what more could a person ask? I'd have ordered the same, and I'm afraid I couldn't walk away from a single bite of creme brulee. Guilt is overrated, and as others note you have probably worked off the calories already. (I'm taking notes on how to enjoy one's 70th birthday, by the way.)
ReplyDeleteYou two make one very beautiful couple! Keep celebrating! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to end all your birthday celebrations. You should never feel guilty about indulging in a special birthday meal just enjoy the moment. A new decade that's quite exciting. I wonder how many more activities you can fit into your busy schedule!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an excellent meal, DJan! Wow, it's incredible. I also love that photo of you and Smart Guy. What's not to like about turning 70? I celebrate my 67th in January.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up DJan! I just finished eating two big slices of cheese pizza and you are lamenting over two bites of creme brulee - in celebration of your 70th birthday.

ReplyDeleteDelightful meal for a great couple. Well done. Almost good enough to make you want to have a birthday party every year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful couple the two of you make. You are very lovely. I'm glad you indulged and enjoyed. One hike and it's all gone anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see you with your man, Smart Guy!
ReplyDeleteYou have had quite a birthday pageant, as we in our family call prolonged celebrations.
Happy belated Birthday my friend...two weeks ago I bragged I have not been sick in 7 years...and WHAMMO....I got so sick....sore throat, no voice, stuffy head, and hacking horrible cough....
ReplyDeleteNice to see you and Smart Guy celebrating on the water over such a lovely dinner.
Happy belated birthday..looks like a nice celebration...
ReplyDeleteNo-one as active as you has the slightest cause for guilt over a teeny-weeny indulgence for such a good reason. If you looked like the Michelin woman perhaps, and your only exercise was wielding the remote control - but the truth is far, far otherwise. And birthdays are to be savoured.
ReplyDeleteThis really is a gorgeous photo. I LOVE your smile, DJan. You are so beautiful. That is a really, really good deal you got for your birthday. I would NOT have been able to leave a sliver of that creme brulee behind.
ReplyDeleteYou two are such a handsome couple.
ReplyDeleteGood choice on the creme brulee. Haven't you heard, calories don't count on your birthday.
Happy Couple! That photo seems to say it all. Life is what you make it....at any age!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely setting for your extended Birthday Dinner. This is simply a very warm photo of you both. The smiles and love-look tell it all. This is just adorable. I could easily have put away that meal and not been a bit guilty. Girl, the way you run about, it would be gone by tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo- you're a good looking couple. Certainly all your regular exercising makes an occasional dessert just fine. You've set this up to be an amazing decade so may it be so.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fabulous way to round up the birthday celebrations! :o)
ReplyDeleteAnd love the photo of you two!
Hugs!!! And may the 70s be a great decade for you! :o)
That sagittarian optimism. I love it.
ReplyDeleteYou two look like you're glad to be there, together.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic photo. Looks like you not only had good food, but also a good time. Enjoy each and every moment. I will whisper in your ear: some day you'll be 90.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this photo!! Glad you went and overindulged a little. It's a wonderful life!! :) :)
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping some of us who aren't there yet will make it and enjoy it as much as you have!! Happy 70! now it's time you aim for 80+./
