Rainy Thursday

As you can see from the above picture, our hike yesterday was, well, in a word, wet. I knew it would be, since they tell you that if the weather forecast says it is 80% chance of rain in these parts, that means you could count on it. I waffled back and forth about whether to go or not, but finally decided that I would go ahead and make the trek if others also went.

As it was, 14 Senior Trailblazers showed up, far beyond what I expected we would have. We were scheduled to drive up to the trailhead in the mountains, a fairly long drive, to hike up to Heliotrope Ridge. Since we were pretty sure it would be rainy, we decided instead to go up to Stewart Mountain on the east side of Lake Whatcom, just 10 miles away. We expected just light rain and then occasional showers in the afternoon. Instead, it just rained on us from about a mile out until we turned around after hiking up three miles and 2,000 feet. (The entire trip is almost five up and another thousand feet or so.) Instead of stopping to have lunch, we hiked back down and went to the Senior Center for lunch.
Here you can see four of the intrepid group, considering what to do: go back down, try to eat a soggy lunch, or just keep going up. Even though we hiked a total of six miles in the rain, it was so much better than staying inside watching it come down, don't you think?

I have a question for some of my blogging friends: my last three posts have received comments that I consider to be spam (they just picked up information from previous comments and have an embedded link), and I'd like to delete them. I have spent some time in blogger trying to find out how to do this, and I can't. Instead of allowing myself to be totally frustrated, I figured I'd ask YOU if you know how to delete unwanted comments. Anybody?
:-)

  1. After the comments are posted click on the trash can icon beside the comment. It will open up another page and ask if you want to delete it. It will also have a box to check if you want to remove forever - check it then click delete. There you go. All gone.

  2. I thought I should clarify my previous comment. The little trash can icon is located beneath the comment next to the time of the comment posting. Go ahead and try it - delete this comment. LOL

  3. Same as Rae, I have the little trash can icon which takes me to the delete screen.

I also have comment moderation turned on for any post older than one day, I did this just because of the spammers.

You did have a wet hike, but it's still beautiful there. Your rain arrived here this morning, it is nice since we had no rain for the entire month of Sept. but it can go away now.

  4. Ahh, gotta love spammers. You got good advice here, I have deleted a couple on my blog and they didn't seem to come back. Good luck!

  5. Ah, you guys are the BEST! I knew you'd help me out. I went over and deleted those three using your instructions. No way I would ever delete YOU, Rae. Is there any way to block someone for ever going on your site? Or is that somewhere down the road?

Funny how I never even SAW that little trash can icon until you pointed it out. That is what selective vision is all about, I guess. Thanks again!!

  6. Hi DJan, Glad you figured it out, as far as I know there is no way to block them. I haven't had one for a long time..watch, now I will get one. I just delete them. I think I have my word verification set for posts older than a week.

Looks like a soggy day, we have had rain now for two days..at least it is not snow! I would love a hike in the mountains, you are very lucky! :)

  7. My daughter set up my blog. Each comment comes to my email or stays on the blog dashboard and does not get published until I click on “publish.” This is why when I go away the comments may not show very fast as my daughter publish them for me, but she works a lot so she does not look at the computer too often. It has 3 choices on the email: Publish, Reject or Moderate. I don’t know what moderate is for as I have not used it. I only used Reject once when I got a comment from some Italian guy and looked at his blog – it was a grotesque blog with many horrible pictures, so I rejected him.

  8. DJ, Rainy but beautiful. It's been raining here all week, too, but I'm one of those people that sits inside and looks at it. I admire you for getting out there and moving. I know I sit on my butt too much.

  9. DJ, I love rains most of the time because it makes us feel cooler, it saves us from gardening the plants, it washes away the dirt on the roof, but sometimes rains are too destructive and a hindrance to plans. Well I guess you should have sit down for a while and wait for the rain to stop before you continue trekking hahaha, did you?

About the spammers, I have seen some in SQ blogs written in Chinese characters, I haven't encountered it yet, but I agree with Rae's and SQ's advice. Take care.

  10. You and your fellow Trailblazers deserve a lot of credit for all the hiking you do, rain or shine. No doubt that the view is worth it!

  11. I forgot to mention, regarding comments, you can change your settings so that you can moderate your comments before they are posted; that way you can delete any spam beforehand.

  12. Definitely better to be out than in! I’m not a fan of the rain but if you are togged up well then I don’t mind too much if the environment is a beautiful one. Good for you making a go of it despite the weather!

  13. I give you credit for your long, hard hikes in the rain..we hiked yesterday just a little ways in the woods in the rain and turned back because we felt miserable and wet. :-}
I have had foreign people write comments in their symbols and I don't ever publish them (I delete them) because someone else told me they are actually ads for X-rated sites in their language. Good Lord!

I really appreciate your comments! If you see a word verification box here, just ignore it. I don't use the darn thing and Blogger is trying to get us to use it, I guess. Ignore it and your comment will still appear.
