I'm ready for more rain free days

Two strangers enjoying the view
A couple of weeks ago, we Trailblazers hiked up Goose Rock in the Deception Pass area. I saw this couple haul up their chairs and set them up to enjoy the sunshine and the lovely view. It was such a beautiful day, and this couple sat with their backs to us while we ate our lunches. It was a shot I couldn't resist taking.

Pretty much every day since then has had a bit of rain, and although that is the norm for this time of year, I must say I sure did get used to seeing all that blue sky and not having to worry about rain gear for awhile. You just don't move to the Pacific Northwest if you can't appreciate the wet stuff most of the time. It makes days like the one above appreciated even more.

It's already rained more than half an inch here today, without any sign of a letup. I am now ready to settle in for the rest of the day, after reading the news. We are in the midst of a coronavirus outbreak in our state, having learned just this morning that six people have died from the virus, just an hour's drive south of us. It's pretty scary. I found this chart online from the CDC (February 11):
Prepared by Ian M. Mackay virologydownunder.com
I am squarely in that second-to-top group, 70-79, with a very concerning death rate. Therefore, I'll be paying close attention to my surroundings and not only washing my hands obsessively, but also staying away from sick people. Only in recent days has testing for the virus started in our state, and who knows how many more cases will turn up in the coming days and weeks?

  1. It is scary and it will only be a short time and it will be here too.

  2. We have a grey day today, and rain predicted for tomorrow and the next. I do hope the predictions come true.
Coronavirus has hit here too, and I expect it will become much more prevalent before this is over.

  3. And this administration is so unequipped to handle this situation.

  4. I want the sunny days back too, but we did luck out yesterday with no rain here in Seattle for all of out activities. We've only had very light rain here today.
We have been out in the crowds this week, and on public transportation. We try not to touch our faces but it's hard to remember. We wash hands when we can after touching hand rails and for sure when we get back home. I suspect the virus has been around us for a while and most people just thought it was a cold. that's how it presents for most people who do not already have compromising conditions.

  5. What a nice view of the couple shaking blue skies and a beautiful view!

I heard on the news early this morning about the six that have died in a Nursing Home.

I picked up some extra canned fruit today...we prefer fresh fruit but it will be better than nothing if grocery store visits become impossible for us. We have enough food around here for a month :) I am concerned but not overly concerned yet. Keeping calm.

  6. Sunshine here, but we are praying for more rain. It has become desperate here--only 3.5 inches when we should have 10 inches by this time.

You are very healthy and in good condition so I don't feel that you should be fearful about the Covid-19 virus. If for some reason you do catch it, you have a good immune system and healthy body to fight it off.

  7. I always think of you when I hear the news about Washington state but I know you are aware and will do what is best. We are in Az and probably only a matter of time. I am using this as a matter of mindfulness...how long can I stay somewhat isolated without going crazy. Interesting to say the least.

  8. I think the health dept. has played fast and loose with the virus and has not bothered to test. So sick people have wondered around and spread the virus. It's a good time to stay home.

  9. Those red bars at the top are a little scary.

  10. Amazon packages we get sometimes comes from Washington & a postal worker died in your state? I don't think mail would carry the disease...at least I hope not.

    That picture speaks volumes!

  11. I have been watching the news avidly. It will come as no surprise that i have decided against travelling to Vietnam etc this week.

  12. I have been watching the news closely and have worried a bit about you and Linda. The fact that you are in such good health will really help you. Usually people in that age group have compromised immune systems like I do. That you are so healthy should bode well for you even if you did catch it. Regardless, be cautious my friend and stay safe.

  13. We are trying to stay away from crowds, but do have to visit the doctors and grocery shop, so total sheltering at home is almost impossible. And although we are being cautious (washing our hands, etc.) I refuse to 'worry' about what may or may not happen. We have some things (like water, potty paper, soup, and tea/coffee) that might hold us for 2 weeks if necessary - but beyond that... ) I pray for those already affected and pray they will recover (don't see any information on how many affected do recover?) - and I really trust that we will 'get a handle' on this situation soon (at least I pray that we will).
Do take care, DJan... and I know that you do.

  14. That is such a gorgeous view. I just love it. As for the virus, the news is that the flu has claimed more lives than the covid-19.

  15. It's grey skies here today, and just a bit above the freezing mark.

    A lovely view!

  16. I hope you are able to steer clear from any and all viruses. Fear is spreading too. I don't like that either.

  17. That looks like such a perfect spot to enjoy a sunny day or to watch a sunrise or sunset.

I think of you with this virus. Anybody over 60 seems more at risk by that chart. Be safe, my friend. :)

  18. I am avoiding crowds and trips outside and making sure I use soap and water or alchohol based creames when I am out and about.

  19. We’re also getting a LOT of rain here in Hawaii and a lot of unstable weather.

We are ALSO in that danger group for the Coronavirus. The son of my very good friend is a doctor at that Seattle hospital where those deaths have occurred and has to wear protective wear at work. It’s so very scary.

  20. Hey DJan!! That was a lovely view of the ocean !! No wonder the couple was so absorbed by its charm. It is indeed to scary to get out these days here too. Gone are those days when a cold were so frequent and silly; now the thought of that gives me chills. Still, life has to move on. People must also be highly precautious. Follow the necessary guidelines and be safe.
