Scary skies

Yellow sky and wan sunlight
This morning I couldn't believe how warm it had stayed overnight, but it was because of all the smoke that held in the heat. We are receiving smoke from eastern Washington fires, as well as Montana and a fire not far from Seattle (Cle Elum).

You can smell the smoke in the air, and the terrific heat we were supposed to have today didn't materialize, as the smoke cut much of the sun's heat. But it sure does seem like we are on another planet, doesn't it?

  1. At least none of the fires are close to Bellingham! I live in eastern Washington just south of the Diamond Creek Fire, and today we got put on Level 1 evacuation alert.

  2. Sadly those skies are all too familiar to me. My heart goes out to those in the danger zone.

  4. This is the first time that I remember that ash has fallen along with the smoke. We did go for a wlk this morning, under that red sun, but after that we stayed indoors. The aire just feels thick and heavy.

  5. Our beloved Columbia River Gorge is burning....stared by some stupid kid playing with fireworks. Many of my favorite hiking trails have burned. I'm so heartbroken I can hardly stand it.

  6. People around the world appear to be feeling the same way, Jan. I hope the smoke clears today for you.

  8. Fires out your way and huge hurricanes in the east is scary. I judt cancelled Buddy's and my trip to Florida scheduled for Friday. We'll try after all calms down.

  9. There are 6 fires in central California. There are not enough fire personnel to spread around. Our skies look much like yours so I know how you feel. Hopefully an offshore breeze will come in and blow your smoke away. For now we are holding out for a change in our weather with hopes of rain for the mountain fires.

  10. That shot really is other worldly. I am so sorry you are dealing with all that smoke. Hope you are trying to stay out of it for it can't be good for your lungs. Do take care.

  12. Hurricanes and forest fires... bad enough when one happens, but when several are happening at the same time, it's eerie. But one thing you can say about disasters, they 'bring people together'... not like politics (they tear us apart).

  13. My sister, in Montrose, CO, told me the very same thing yesterday...the smoke is obliterating even the view of the San Juan Mtns. in her vicinity.

    What a shame.
Hope things change for us all sooner than later.
