We are right at the beginning of the heat wave, and I woke this morning to hazy skies, sent to us from British Columbia, which is having devastating wildfires. The wind direction changed from our usual onshore to offshore flow, and the natural sea breeze that keeps us cool even when it gets really hot won't return until Friday, when the temperatures will back off a little. I found this article online about the heat wave. We don't usually ever see triple digits, so none of us have air conditioning. Our trusty fans will be in full use for the month of August, it seems.
We are supposed to be heading to Lake Ann this Thursday, which is a nine-mile hike, most of it in full sun. I'm wondering if I might decide to take a day off! But I might miss something and I hate to think of my buddies suffering without me.
:-)
I truly am not a fan of extreme heat or humidity, and yet I call Tennessee home, which is full of both :) For the past several days, the humidity levels have been low, and the dog days of summer seem to have left, at least for now. I hope you enjoy a lovely hike !

I feel for you - especially not having ac!! (Yikes!!) Could not survive without ac here. Luckily the heat and humidity have backed off around here for a few days - it's been heavenly! But the temperatures are supposed to creep back up as the week goes on.
ReplyDeleteWe too are having triple digit days, or I should say, we are continuing with triple digit days. It's been this way for weeks now.
ReplyDeleteSmiling at that last sentence, Jan. I would be surprised if you passed up a hike but in a heat wave?
ReplyDeletei have already thought about your Thursday hike, and I decided you should all skip going to the high country on Thursday. Go for an early morning walk along the bay instead.
ReplyDeleteIt was warm here today, 80 something but will cool off tonight and tomorrow into the 70's..perfect for me! In fact Thursday our high is to be 61F ....a little cool for August! I will have to get out my sweater!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a really good hike! Remember your hat and maybe a cloth around your neck to wet and wring out:)
The temperature in triple digits had me terrified and then I remembered that you are in Fahrenheit.
ReplyDeleteUgh....it's supposed to hit 105 in Portland tomorrow and 107 on Thursday. Ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteTake care. I hate to think of you suffering to be with your buddies. But am certain you will be there.
ReplyDeleteCome to Buffalo! It's in the 70s.
ReplyDeleteMight be smart to take the day off. You aren't use to such heat plus a 9 mile hike. Really possible your buddies will feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are getting slammed and with no A/C. Yikes.
We are having PNW weather now minus the rain. In the 50's at night and mid 70's day. It is delightful and I can see why you enjoy it so much for most of the year.
Stay cool as possible.
Instead of hiking, why don't you swim in a pool at a gym or YWCA?
ReplyDeleteMuch safer if you all passed on that hike and took a different one that had more shade.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Triple digits and no AC!
