The two of us in cold weather gear |
I won't lie: it was colder than I ever want it to be again, when we walk together. Lily leaves in a week to go back home to her family in Guatemala City and will be gone for almost a month. I'll miss her company and will look forward to her return. It's hard to imagine how it felt to be in that Florida warmth after experiencing three days of subfreezing temperatures. Tomorrow it should moderate a little and give us a rainy hike next Thursday. I'm just glad I had a break from it all for awhile.
This is a busy week for most of us, as we finish whatever we have to do before the holidays. I don't buy much, but there is a special birthday party to attend tomorrow with my friend Leo, who will turn eight (!). I ordered a book for him that arrived while I was in Florida, but there are still a few items on my list that need to be purchased. The stores and parking lots are all full everywhere and will probably remain that way until after next Saturday, Christmas Eve.
I was reminded that next Saturday's walk is at Lake Padden, where my car was broken into on Christmas Eve 2011. I wrote about it here. My pack (which doubles as a purse) was taken and my credit cards used, my iPad and camera gone too. It was awful, so I'll be very careful about where I park next week. No need for a repeat of that terrible time.
In any event, I hope you all will have a safe and very Merry Christmas! We'll be visiting a time or two in our blogs before then, but just in case I forget, please do have a great holiday week. I'll be continuing to eat too much, without a doubt, but hey, it only comes around once a year!
:-)
Oh yes, I'd forgotten about your car! Not only park in a safe place, put everything in the trunk out of sight.
ReplyDeleteYes, a very busy week ahead. I've a few more things on my list to complete. The Husband hasn't even started his list yet - can you imagine?! He has no one to blame but himself for waiting until the last minute.
Have a very Merry Christmas, my dear friend.
I remember when you car was broken into. Definitely hope that lightening doesn't strike twice.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, and a delightful Christmas.
Cold comes in different forms. Wind makes a big difference. Moisture makes i feel colder.
ReplyDeleteI hope your car is not broken into again.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and a wonderful Christmas, Jan.
15 degrees would seem warm to me! Today they warned that if you are outside for longer than 10 minutes with exposed skin you could freeze. The wind chills we -40 below. Just raw. Merry Christmas! Do you have a plan for your car? Maybe they have cameras out there now... you all should car pool.:) :)
ReplyDeleteNow DJan, 15 is a reasonably chilly winter day, but not really cold! You've been spoiled by that week in Florida.
ReplyDeleteMy gosh, DJan, are you home from Florida ALREADY?
ReplyDeleteI remember that break in and how shocked and dismayed you were. I hope it doesn't happen again.
ReplyDeleteIt is cold but I am enjoying the absence of rain and mud and puddles.
ReplyDeleteAfter a busy week, it's time to make lists for the final run up to Christmas. I'm not sure if my shopping is finished or not. Tomorrow I'll take stock and then we'll start wrapping.
Christmas is almost here! Have fun!
have a beautiful Christmas week, and get warm, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the holiday wishes. That is quite a cold snap you are having. Love the ear warmers you are wearing! Merry Christmas DJan!
ReplyDeleteI remember that post about your car being broken into. It is also very cold here yesterday -35 with huge blistery snow storm and this morning at "0" with rain pouring down?? Leo is eight - wow - Happy Birthday. I also remember many of your early posts about Leo. Have a Happy Christmas to you and yours DJan, eat, play and be Merry. I know I will. he,he BTW, your hat and ear muffs look like me out on a walk. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine walking in 15 degrees. Wow. How neat you have dear Leo to buy for. Kids are the best part of gift giving.
ReplyDeleteI missed that post about your being robbed. How awful and like you said, the feeling of being violated had to be the worst. I know you will be careful this time and it is a lesson to all of us to be more aware and sadly less trusting.
It's turned frigid here in CO, too, and we're ve gotten about 2' of much-needed snow. I put on layer after layer to play outside. I look like I'm inflated and twice my size. Have a safe and satisfying holiday, DJan. We'll spend several days in Denver visiting with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I remember your car getting broken into!
ReplyDeleteNo walking around over here with 40 below wind chills and a person could get frostbite within ten minutes. Even 15 degrees is just too cold for me. Enjoy your holidays! :)
That's cold! With the damp air in WA.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here. 38 with the wind chill to 27. And tonight...I shudder to think!
Happy holidays to you and yours, DJan. Your blog is such a bright spot!
ReplyDeleteps....saw your comment you left me and had to return to say "Love your new profile image"!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I feel the cold more now I am older, but if we wrap up warm and keep moving, we can cope. Have a lovely holiday week and a super Christmas DJan. I enjoyed your visit today :)
ReplyDeleteOuch! I remember that terrible break-in too. It's really made us conscious of where we park or car and to hide our belongings.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who is going to Seattle and she's been telling me how nervous she is about the weather.
