Leo is missing two somethings |
My dear friend Leo has reached yet another milestone in his seven years: the loss of his two front teeth. It doesn't seem possible that this guy is already getting ready for his permanent teeth AND he can read! It brings to mind that song, "
All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth," which (I found out from that Wikipedia link) was written in 1944 and first recorded in 1948. That corresponds directly with my own childhood, so maybe many people today don't know the song at all.

They will come back in a few weeks |
The other milestone is that my garden kale has been harvested, as you can see in this picture, and I just ate a wonderful lunch prepared with some of the steamed kale, along with lots of other stuff to make it really yummy. I know there are some people who don't like kale, but fortunately my guy and I simply love it. It's the mainstay of my garden this year.

Celery, lettuce, broccoli and collards |
I also have plenty of celery out there growing well, along with broccoli (some of which has flowered) but I've also planted some late broccoli that will be harvested in the fall. So far I've been more than satisfied with my tasty treats from the garden. There is also a tomato plant (not pictured) that is covered with flowers.
That's it from my little corner of the world today. And wonder of wonders, the best day of the week, weather-wise, will be Thursday when we'll head to the High Country once again.
:-)
yay for your garden goodies. and cute leo!
ReplyDeleteA rite of passage losing those teeth. I remember that song! You should share some of your kale recipes, it might spur me on to try it:)
ReplyDeleteI remember the song. I sang it to my kids in the 80s.
ReplyDeleteHope the tooth fairy was very generous.
ReplyDeleteCute pic! I think I have one like that of me (somewhere)with those 2 front teeth missing. And yes, I do remember that song. As for kale and mustard greens, I do like them in salads when they're young and fresh picked. Your garden is doing well.
ReplyDeleteOh yes....pick the broccoli early, much more tender. I remember my father [with his gardening experiments all the time] waited too long for picking HIS broccoli and it was VERY woody...tough.
ReplyDeleteLove Leo's smile.
Leo is adorable, such a sweetie, growing up too quickly as well.
ReplyDeleteI have harvested the Russian kale for some time now. It is a great producer and yields a lot. We love it too. I am disappointed in the swiss chard this year, but much of gardening is about trial and error I find.
That Leo is a cutie! Tell him he's famous in blogland!
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was thinking Leo couldn't get more adorable and he succeeded. I sure do remember that song. It came out about the same time as my teeth.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is certainly rewarding you. Love Kale also.
Never have been into kale. Maybe I should give it a try. Our experience with growing broccoli ended when green worms appeared in the pan when we steamed it. As hard as i tried to find the buggers before i cooked it, they could hide too well. Rather than use pesticides, we gave up on broccoli and other cruciferous plants.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was born the same year as that song, and i do remember it well.
I was born in 1951 and they were still playing that song on the radio around Christmastime. I remember my dad teasing me repeatedly singing it to me the Christmas I had no front teeth--LOL! They'd also play "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", too--which was confusing when you were a little kid--LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've not been a kale fan. Spinach or swiss chard is my game. ;) You have really gotten good at gardening. And I can't believe how Leo has grown!!
You have such a beautiful garden. Congrats on being able to feast on your veggies.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those who is not a fan of kale. I would like to get a second season of anything but it's not gonna happen around here. the season is just too short.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty shot of the harbor on your July 2nd post. I just enjoyed basil and tomatoes fresh picked from our yard. And we really stocked up at the farmer's market last weekend. Summer is unbeatable. Well, except for January when we're eating papaya in Central America!
ReplyDeleteLook how big Leo is getting! I know that song too and I wasn't born until the 60's. I seem to remember my mom singing that to me when I lost my teeth. And, of course, it gets played on the radio every Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLittle kids are so cute when they lose their front teeth! And I do remember that song!
ReplyDeleteI remember that song! Probably sang it when I was wanting my new teeth at the same age.
ReplyDeleteI remember it well...:)
