Our heat wave finally broke

Trees sending out suckers
The only green on our front lawn are the suckers following the roots of these trees. They were trimmed way back in January 2014, and I took a picture of them and how they looked last year in August. When they had been trimmed back to just stubs, I was worried that they might not recover, but they did. However, this year during our drought they have sent out all these little sprouts that are known as suckers.
The midwest will now get some summer
This graphic from the Climate Prediction Center shows what we have been going through, and what the midwest has had going on while we were baking. Now that our heat wave has finally broken, with the temperatures back in our normal range (low 70s for highs), the rest of the country will begin to warm up. And thank heavens for that!

I had a really nice walk with the ladies this morning, cool and cloudy like it's supposed to be around here. Now I can fix myself a leisurely lunch and settle in for the day, with my daily exercise done. I hope wherever you are, you are enjoying yourself and that the temperature is to your liking.
:-)

  2. We've had temps in the mid-90s since May, unusual for South Florida. Usually, it's August and September that are scorchers.

  3. I can't tell you how pleased I was to see cloudy skies this morning, and feel the cool breeze blowing in through my windows. Enough of this hot stuff, I want my cool, wet PNW summer back

  4. I hope that as well as the more moderate temperatures you get some life-giving rain.

  5. We had our Open Garden today, and it was cool and cloudy most of the day with even a little light rain. The rain didn't really bother the garden visitors or us either. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to do any good.
We have some heavy duty work - hedge pruning- to do this week so we will welcome the coolness. We delayed this work because of the heat earlier.

  6. Wow! Those trees are like ours in Hawaii. The tree trimmers cut them waaaay back over here too and they somehow come back. It astonishes us every time.

We are still sitting in hot, humid weather and it's awful.... arrrghhh....

  7. As much as I dare say it, the heat on the Atlantic Coast is soaring and its not the type of heat anyone wants to be hiking or climbing mountains. We're used to 70's temps for summer and when it hits the 90's that's just awful. I mean it was 43 degrees most mornings and then soared up into the 90's. Unusual and uncomfortable for Maritimers. however; I shall not complain after the winter we had. Have a wonderful day DJan :)

  11. We too have been very cool. I open the windows in the morning and cool the house down to about 76 degrees. The AC hasn't been coming on until late in the day. Hope it stays this cool for the next week.

  12. We don't have a drought here on Oahu, and it rains several times a week. But, it is sometimes 90 degrees and very humid, so we have to turn on the A/C.

  17. Out heat wave continues...and will probably 'til September. But I won't complain much. LOL

We had those suckers from one of our trees we had cut out...for about 3 years...'til the root system decided we didn't want 'em around.

Hope you enjoy the cooler temps. And maybe some much needed rain?
