Tuesday again already?

Front porch pansy
I went to the garden shop a few weeks back to get some flowers that would brighten up my front porch, since many of my pretty summer plants had finished blooming and/or gave up the ghost. These lovely pansies were a surprise, because they are my favorite color and frilly to boot. The plant didn't have any blooms, but lots of them were ready to emerge when I bought it. I hope they will last for awhile to brighten my comings and goings.

Although I'm retired, I have a fairly constant weekly schedule: Tuesdays are the one day each week when I take two classes back to back at the Y, starting at 8:00am and finishing at 10:00am. I don't exactly look forward to it, because I know I'll be tired afterwards, but after a shower and a nice cup of coffee, I feel simply great. It's also the only time during the week when I lift weights. (The class is actually held two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I am out in the wilderness on Thursdays.) It's a class I don't like to miss, since keeping my strength up helps in many other aspects of my daily life.

I am mulling the possibility of writing some biographies about the interesting people in my life. I realized the other day that many of you think of me as being a rarified animal in the scheme of things. Not true! Maybe I could begin to interview some of the people at the Y who interest me, and write an article about each one. Would you like to know more about those fascinating people I hit the trails with? I'm thinking of Rita particularly, who is 75 and hikes, tap dances, bikes all day long sometimes, and recently took up scuba diving. What do you think?

  1. With your expertise and background in editing, I'm SURE you'll write a worthy piece that'll sell like hot cakes.

Now, I didn't KNOW you did weights?!!! What'll you tell us next?

  3. I understand that if you pinch off the dead blooms on the pansies that will encourage new growth.

And yes, I would be fascinated to hear some of your friend's stories.

  4. I've always heard that "everyone has a story" and the older I get, I realize that people's lives are a lot more complicated than we see on the surface.

And the weight thing is great! There's a class here for weight training for older persons that I've considered. Maybe next semester.

  5. I think the strength thing is highly under estimated. I found that out this year. Yes, do the biography thing. Some of the characters I skate with have great stories.

  6. Great idea. There's an older woman here who still bikes 30 or 40 km a day, several days a week. I'm sure she has an interesting background.

  8. I think the biographies would be interesting, but please include some folks who are not quite super stars. There is a fine line between inspiring and intimidating.

  9. That's the thing with blogging. We're here to absorb whatever it is you find of interest to talk about or show. That's what makes in interesting to us. So yes, please do.

    Lovely bloom.

  13. Ah,so pretty and your favorite color too.
Bring them on and give them a shout out. Some to inspire us but also some to make us feel comfortable. Good idea.

  14. A resounding YES!! I wouldn't mind knowing more about your friend from the coffee shop. Carl? The one who's parrot died a while back. He looks like he has some tales to tell.

Also, I've always found your reflections on your family on your other blog to be so interesting. Your maternal g-mother. I don't know if you've ever watch Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr or Who Do You Think You are, but they both tell some really interesting stories.

  15. yes, please! I'd love to read interviews about your fellow hikers!

And I admire you for staying in such great shape and being so active. One of these days I'll get moving more-- Maybe tap dance! I like the sound of that.

  18. Your biography idea is a good one. A lady at the church I have recently left did this in her Sunday School class of about 50. Almost everyone was a willing participant and then she published a book of the stories for each one. It was great to read about so many people I "knew" but didn't really know their backstory.
