A new toy is in my future

Red ivy on a downtown building
I took the picture above with my iPhone4S, a now rather dated Apple product and not worth much any more, since the iPhone6 and 6+ have been released. I've been really happy with my phone, although I use it for almost everything BUT a phone. I have been continually amazed at the quality of the pictures I'm able to take, and I'll be eligible for an upgrade in another month. Will I do it? Probably not right away. Even though the camera in the iPhone6 is really outstanding, I made the mistake of watching the keynote from Apple about its latest additions.
Tim Cook explaining about the new iPad Mini and iPad Air 2
And instead of getting a new iPhone right away, I decided to pre-order the iPad Air 2. It is the sixth-generation iPad, and I've got a second-generation one. There have been a lot of changes in the last three years. I vacillated mightily about whether or not to go with the Mini or the Air, and finally decided to order the larger one, since it weighs less than a pound and all the reviews make it sound just perfect for me.

And it's got the same camera in it as is in the iPhone6. However, I've never been one to hold up a ten-inch tablet to take pictures, but that may be about to change. I was told the tablet was shipped by UPS Ground and would be here yesterday, but they lied. I watched out the front window obsessively yesterday, but when it didn't arrive, my enthusiasm deflated down to a normal level. It's arrived in Bellingham, but will sit in the UPS closed office until Monday (I checked this morning). I'm still excited, but instead of getting to know my new toy today, I'll go to the movies with Judy. Monday will be here soon enough.
:-)

  2. Have fun with your new toy. I barely use my phone (for anything).
    Love that climbing ivy.

  4. Sounds awesome! Some day I'll stop being so cheap and get one too. My 1st gen Kindle Fire is a real pain in the ass. As for my cell...it's a ten year old LG multi media phone, precursor to the smart phone.

  5. Yay - a new toy!!! That's always fun.

Boo, that it hasn't arrived yet. Although they do say that the anticipation is half the fun.

  6. I refuse to get a phone...I am just not a phone person. I hope you will give us a review of your new toy after you have conquered it! :)

  7. I hope you enjoy your new toy. I got a MacBook Pro Laptop a couple of years ago. I tried a tablet before that, which I found unacceptable as a primary computer. I have a Nokia phone which is so aged it cannot text, but it works well as a phone, which is why I have it.

Looking forward to your story about the new toy, fter it arrives.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  9. I just got the ipad mini. It's kind of disappointing to think it might be obsolete in three years.

  10. I'm sorry you won't get your new toy until Monday . . . but you still have the joy of anticipation until then. :-)
I dread the day that my little old phone dies. It's one of the old old old old ones that does nothing except phone. It flips open and closed, and closed, resembles a fat full wood tick. A poor thing, but mine own.

  11. Enjoy the movie while you await Monday's arrival [both the day and your 'new toy']

  12. I just the other day compared the same as you between the both and have not yet decided which I will buy. I, like you use my iphone for everything except talking - just the odd call out on the road or in the car. It does take exceptional photos and I do take a lot of photos. I did switch over to the smart phone world for a while and was not that impressed - Apple has the best products - I try them all and keep going back to Apple products - they are MORE than just classy. Ah, the excitement will be there tomorrow DJan. Have fun my dear.

  13. It's always exciting waiting for a new toy! I hope it comes tomorrow. Larry is also looking to replace his IPad, now quite old. Do let us know how you get on with it?

  14. That is exciting but possibly not the camera you will be using on your weekly walks.

  15. cool...have fun with that...the Air sales are way down right now...probably because of the increase in size of the iphone...i would still like to get an ipad though....

  18. I have the Galaxy S4 and find it difficult to use to take pictures. I like my Canon much better, easier to handle. But then, I'm a klutz.

  19. What a bummer and now the wait. Hope you enjoy the new toy and it does for you what you want+.
My cell phone is only a phone which is OK since I have to drive 4 miles to get a signal.

  20. Terry took my iPhone 4S when I got the new 5. He's thrilled with it as he can do so much he couldn't do with my old 3G which he also inherited. Works well for him!

As for iPad, I'm thinking in the next year or so I might just bite the bullet and get one, but I'm going to the Apple store and talk with a genius first about what I need and what is offered. I'll try it out at the store.

My MacBook Pro is still doing fine, praise God. Terry has replaced his laptop he bought the same time I bought the Mac. He got a tablet with the new laptop. So he's a happy camper.

  21. You made me laugh, because you sounded like a kid looking at his gifts under the Xmas tree.

Hope your toy is as good as you say.

  22. The photo is so lovely.
I've been wanting a tablet or i-phone for quite sometime now. Thanks for the explanation of the differences, it makes choosing easier.

  23. Dear DJan, I read your other blog first and so learned about the movie you went to on Saturday. I plan on seeing that if it comes here to Independence as , like you, I so enjoy Maggie Smith. I'm looking forward to seeing her again in "Downton Abbey" in January.

I'm glad you are treating yourself to a new iPad. You so enjoy the Mac products that you would be a perfect person for them to use in advertising!!! Peace.

  24. I already have an iPad that I'm using now, but you're really tempting me.... Really, really tempting me; especially when you mentioned that it has the same camera as the iPhone 6. I've seen my daughter's iPhone 6 photos and they take better photos than my regular camera.
